BDM Bats
« on: April 23, 2012, 12:00:21 AM »

Does anyone have any experience with BDM bats?  Have seen a few dotted around up here in the North East.  I'm new back into cricket, last season was my first in 8 years, and am looking at a new stick.  Don't want to spend a lot as have a wee bairn and don't play at a particularly high level, but have seen a few BDM bats on the Interweb and they look decent.  Would also appreciate thoughts on other bats up to £70ish??

Also, have always liked BAS bats, do they do lower grade models?

I have had a few BDM bats only once have I had one that I did not like, but that was partially due to the fact that I did not get a chance to pick the bat myself, so if you can go to a store and find something that you like the feel of you'd be alright..

Cheers. Sounds like it may be worth a wee trip. What's their durability like?  As I said, I'm getting back into this, and wouldn't want to fork out for a few bats.  What's the quality like on the lower end bats in other brands does anyone know?

Lower end bats are ok, I think last year i had a BDM Fire, which player surprisingly well...as for durability it all depends on individual but most of my BDM's lasted abt 1.5-2 seasons...compare that to CA which averages 1 season is not bad...

Great thanks, the Fire does look decent.  You know much of Larsons?  How do they compare?  You seem quite clued up on bats from the sub-continent?  Essentially I'm looking to get the best value I can for my buck, and you seem like a good person to ask.

BDM bats are good. I have used the top of the range Dynamic Power Super and also the lower grade Dynamic Power T20. Very nice bats.

You give me more credit than I deserve, I am not expert by any means, just sharing my own experience....
Larsons are one of the most underrated bats, if i was given a choice between lower end bats then choose larsons as some of BDM's are EWNI, which is still good but I think larsons are all EW...BAS mid to high range are also very good...SS are also good...
SG i am not a fan of but that is personal preference...i have had more planks from SG lower end...

Thank-you both.  Like the look of a couple of Larsons bats I've seen recently.  Seen some cracking CA and MB bats at a reasonable price too.  Do you know if any of the forum sponsor's stock lower/mid end bats?

Asad at Uzi sports stocks mid to lower end bats, as well as higher ones too.

Simmy, the Larsons bats I'd seen where round about that sort of money and looked superb - though not sure how they play.

Will have a look at Uzi Sports then, cheers lads.  Thankfully the shop is too far away from me to try before I buy, else I'd doubtless end up spending more than I wanted.

As I'm just getting back into this I don't need absolute perfection for me, just something that'll go well and last a bit.  So I'm happy to buy over the Interweb.

If you are buying on the net Pro direct has some good sales on...no asian bats but you can get a good GM for cheap...

You can always get blank RNS Larsons from AJ Sports, many buy them and sticker as their own brand with a huge mark up but still get rave reviews and win awards.
