stopping a bat cracking
« on: April 30, 2012, 08:09:07 PM »

Hi guys, just a quick one, does anyone know a way to stop my damn bat cracking, its gone through the toe on its first use, sent it back to be repaired/replace, came back good as new, now its cracking along the grains, have literally done about 10 hours knocking in over the past month ive had it and I know that willow is natural and sometimes you just cant help it, but with all the knowledge on the forum, I was just wondering if anyone knew something that i didnt?

cheers guys

Do you mean surface cracks? or cracking all the way through? If its the latter then I suggest sending the bat back and getting them to replace it immediately (if the use you have said it has had is true!) if it's the former then it's a sign of decent willow so I'm told... ;)

thanks fletch, wilkie and pedals, i would stick some pics up but the cracks are impossible to photograph, though i can feel them, they are without a doubt superficial, but in the 3 months ive had it, it has already had on repair and is still cracking doesnt really bode well for a long life does it?

If they are just on the surface then that is what the bat is actually supposed to do mate! Don't worry about it, it won't effect the longevity of your bat at all. I'd say you've got that bat about ready to go.....

Assuming they are just superficial... ;)

Nope it ,  the surface cracks shouldn't be a problem. I had a GM bat a few years ago that went through the toe after 6 games. Not good, I even had to pay for the repair!

Just try and get some pics up and we'll have a look.

Looking the seam marks I'd say prob knock it in a bit more. How much did you do?

yeah, I onliy just noticed them tbh, they could be from where i was bouncing a brand new ball onit for a bit when i got it back from the repair? i will do another hour, but i have done loads like literally 10 hours in the past moth, might just be a really softly pressed bat, these are a one of limited edition set of stickers, although james has designed some along these lines for this season mate, the only difference is that the front sticker is a shield, and the back sticker has the name along the back like in the pics

If you're still getting seam marks after 10 hours I would definitely have a word with the maker about this....it should have hardened up by now ???

Those surface cracks are fine by the way! How old was the bat when the toe went?

I had a v sports bat that just cracked constantly. It doesn't affect the performance but can understand that you will be upset
