Quality gloves - and care
« on: May 02, 2012, 03:56:51 PM »

Hi

For the last few seasons I've gone for mid-range GM gloves, used them for the year and then abandoned them when they've turned into a crispy mess.

As I've started this season in good form I'm going to treat myself to some nice gloves (I can't find an excuse to replace anything else!) and was wondering:

Do/ how much does wearing inners help with longevity? Never done it before, so wanting to avoid the crispy palms look after a couple of long innings.
How do you look after (dry off) gloves, I'm sorry to say until now I lump everything into the bag and open it again for the next game...

And finally, although I know its largely personal preference and feel, does anyone think there are any standout gloves at the moment that should be looked at?

I use a dry cloth to wipe off the sweat & then dry gloves, pads, etc in the sun if possible... :)

Don't leave them in the sun, this can lead to the gloves getting crispy pretty quickly.

I'm a heavy sweater so I wear inners and they definitely help with making the gloves last longer throughout your innings, as well as lasting longer through the season.

In regards to drying gear out after playing, I always unpack all my gear once I get home and leave it in my computer area till I need it again. All my gear drys out within a day or so, I just don't pack it up again till I need it a few days later. I'm pretty pedantic and have to have all my gear organised and has to be perfect for when I use it, lol :D.

If you leave your gear in a closed bag till you need it again, it's not getting aired out and won't dry properly, plus it can lead to your gear getting pretty funky.

Also After the last game of the season dont leave recently used gloves inside your helmet with a banana in the helmet as well over the winter.

From experience this leads to a sudden need for new kit.

Spend the extra money on Pittard's leather in your gloves, with the water proofing they last 4/5 times longer.
