Where do you stand if you buy a plank?
« on: May 25, 2012, 10:18:32 AM »

One of the lads at our club has just bought a brand new £260 bat from SCS (will keep the bat name out of the thread for now, to possibly give the manufacturer a chance to rectify). Spent ages knocking it in, bought it down to nets last night, saying that it wasn't all that great. Every-one tried it, and it's an absolute plank! What do you think his options are?

tricky - unless you can evidence that its been mispressed etc then in consumer law you might not have a lot of recourse.  That said, if its such a bad bat and from a major manufacturer, they may well say what the hell, it happens and give hima replacement for goodwill.  Smaller brands I suspect would be helpful too as they wouldn't want one of their planks walking around...

Alternatively, stick it on Fleabay and take the hit.

I guess it's just one of those things that happen when you make a lot of bats. The middle is literally about a square inch, everything else is dead!

Take it back to the shop and ask them to send it back to the manufacturor and ask "for their opinion".

I did that with a DF bat many years ago. They replaced it FOC - with one that was just as rubbish.

I had a problem with a top of the range Slaz bat which I bought a few years back, it was the top of the range bat and it was a complete plank and very poor willow for the best of the best.

They told me to send it back to them which I did and they knocked it in a bit and sent it back to me saying they thought it was ok, I contacted wisden and Slaz again and after a bit they decided to send me another bat foc but it took some fighting.

got to wonder about why the lad doesn;t tap the bat up in the shop - I always insist on doing this just to make sure!

never spend 260 quid on a bat, there is no correlation between cost and performance!

Hope that helps!! lol,

Send/take it back and say your completely dissatisfy, and that the bat does not do what they (scs) said it would do, its up to them the fix the issue, and if its not very good then it IS an issue, they need to replace it not the manufacture...

be persistent, and don't take any (No Swearing Please) from the seller....

good luck!

It's not my bat mate lol, I would never spend that, my Bulldog is already starting to go at the toe, because I'm such a useless, skill-less slogger!

Start hitting the middle nick !! Haha. I will take a look next week as I think I'm going to come to your practice night as a few of your lads are looking for bats. I think the lad who owns the bat you are talking about is one !!

There's nothing wrong with the bat Kieron lol, best stick I've ever owned. Just keep trying to hit yorkers! Think you've got 2 or 3 at least who are keen for bats.
