Half Grips
« on: May 26, 2012, 09:16:54 PM »

Was idly swinging away with a team mates bat at todays game and noticed he had a half grip on the bat for his bottom hand, I asked why he did this and what purpose it was for, he said he didn't know. What is the thinking behind this? Does it remove the influence of the bottom hand?

in short, to the best of my knowledge...

1. to reduce the strength of your bottom hand to help you play straight, as you suggested.
2. to reduce the bat twisting in your hands as you play a shot.
3. to make you have a "pro" handle according to some bat manufacturers. (!)
4. to make the handle more comfortable
5. to absorb vibration from a miss hit.
