Who will replace Pietersen in the one day stuff?
« on: May 31, 2012, 12:41:28 PM »

Who will come in at the top of the order? Will Kieswetter move back up there, leaving room for Buttler down the order. Or someone else down the order.

Or will they go for someone new at the top?

What do you reckon?

Rory Hamilton-Brown for me.
bowls some off spin, good fielder and comes in at the top of the order for the best one-day side around the counties at the moment.

RHB has the benefit of playing on the best batting track in England atm.

which is similar to international tracks

he has also scored a stack of runs this season on some terrible tracks.

Very true. He is the outstanding candidate imo with not many other opening batsmen making a real claim for the spot

Luke Wright perhaps? Didn't do too well when he initially broke into the international scene but seems to have rethought his game and come back an improved batsman, plus he can bowl and over or two aswell.

RHB has done very well, and I think two of his Surrey top-order team-mates could also be in with a shout, Jason Roy can give the ball a good whack and Davies is a better wicket-keeper and batsman than Kieswetter imo.

Will they go for the new order batsmen? Or new middle order with Kieswetter up there?

Rory Hamilton-Brown for me.
bowls some off spin, good fielder and comes in at the top of the order for the best one-day side around the counties at the moment.
And he blocked out against Somerset when Surrey needed ~100 runs in a session with 4 wickets in hand... Don't think he's quite as explosive as KP.

I'd like to say that there won't be a player that slots into KP's place but instead a couple of changes which will, overall, fill the void left by the man.

I'd like to see more of this Ben Stokes lad, Bowls a bit and hits it miles apparently him to bat at 5/6 and have Keiswetter opening up with Cook

Can we have a link to that game? You said session which makes it sound like a CC match, which has nothing to do with the one day team..

RHB is quite an explosive one day batsman, that's why he is number 3 in one of the best Pro 40 and 20/20 teams around.. He may not have the same creative flair that Pietersen has but he certainly knows how to strike a ball and how to score runs at a high run rate.

Indeed it was a CC game but I'm just getting at Rory's lack of intent at times and just saying how Pietersen would have gone after the total.

Urm RH-B batted out to save the game with the tail - this has nothing to do with his ability as a possible ODI opener.
this showed he has finally learned to adapt his game to all the conditions. Previously he would have gone for the target and may or may not have got the runs...!!

That's under completely different conditions to a OD or T20, if he'd gone for the runs he'd of risked losing the game, so that shows great maturity, I think he'd be a very good fit.
