New bat choice
« on: June 01, 2012, 05:42:50 PM »

Hello.

I know I don't post often here, but I can not decide which bat to get.

1. Laver and wood private bin.
2. Newbery tour sps. ( Really like the profile)
3.Gray Nicholls legend.
4.Screamng cat.

Looking for 2.6 to 2.7 weight, with the profile more tradional than big edges. (Although some hybrids I do like, eg the tour profile). Sweet spot in the middle, as I like the pick up that brings.

What bat would you choose if money wasn't an issue ?

What bat would you choose if money was ?

Also, I'm leaning towards the gray nicholls' legend. Don't really know why.

I know there is loads of other great companies out there, but you co have to pick one in the end.

If money was no object I would buy another SAF Hades.

If you are looking at screaming cat and GN legend, you could get a Laver and Wood reserve rather than private bin.

If you can afford a screaming cat then that would probably be the best you could get.

From your list I'd go Laver or Scat.

If money were no object then I'd probably go for a SAF Ultima

sometimes people confuse me here.

you have the opportunity to have a world class bat made to your specifications and your favoured choice is a mass produced bat made in India.

for me find your local batmaker, ask him to get a special cleft and take the time to have something personal.

you are talking big numbers, go custom.

2.6-2.7 would be hard to get in Screaming Cat unless you go for higher swell profile. If you want Series One or series Three then with thick handle etc 2.6-2.7 is out of question.

Good point cover drive.

Thanks for the info guys.

I think I'm going to go for a l&w reserve. For 550 odd austalian, they seem top.

As for the legend bat, I have only heard good things. They also grow their trees and claim the legend is the top 1per cent. That is the reason I thought about them. If you had asked me 1 month ago, I would not have given gray nicholls a thought, but doing some research, they seem different to the other big brands.

The Legend i had was excellent quality willow but The profile wasn't suited to me.
If you were looking at the more traditional profile then that would surely mean thin edges, little or no concaving, and low middle? I found the middle was slightly high and would surely be very different from the trad profile?
Anyway, Scats are superb but choose the right profile for you! And L&W would almost certainly be my choice too....at least from the bats you've mentioned!
There are other excellent options on here too  8)

Just ordered a reserve bat.

Great service by the Laver & wood team.
