Changing handles
« on: June 20, 2012, 10:09:50 PM »

My old GM has been repaired about three or four times now, and is cracking again, I've got so much use out of it now that it owes me nothing. The handle on the cheap new bat I've bought to keep me going for a while only has a very thin, round handle, so I was wondering about trying to take that off and replace it with the oval handle from my GM. Not done anything like this before so was wondering if it would be feasible? Anybody got any tips if they have done it in the past?

never do it myself,  the question would be if the splice had enough wood in it should work in theory.

mate the hardest part would be to extract the good handle without any damage to the handle but then what if the splice in your god bat is wider than the good handle...some things to consider i guess...

Probably won't work, both companies will use different jigs so the 'vee' will be different sizes. Also the thickness of the handle (front to back) will probably be smaller on the GM, compared to the light dry Pakistani bat it sounds like you've bought.

A new handle is no more than £10 to buy. It's the labour which costs - if you can do it yourself then get in touch with a batmaker to buy a single handle
