knee injuries
« on: June 22, 2012, 01:09:39 PM »

Just wondering if anyone has had any knee issue? most likely going to see a physio/doctor monday..

I am not sure what I did but about 5 weeks ago while bowling I felt something in my right knee so stopped bowling right away and just wasted time with friends in the nets..

Anyways came home that night there was no pain etc..then about 3 weeks ago all of the sudden knee starting hurting...basically going up or down steps, getting off the floor, out of the car, walking, standing for long periods everything hurts..played 2 matches but did not bowl much...regardless its slightly better now but still hurts enough to make me wince every now and then..

can't figure out what could be the reason other than the net incident and carrying around a 15KG child at home...

Your physio/doc will sort you out. May need an xray to fully assess any damage though. You did the right thing in pulling up straight away.

I had a real knee issue a good few years ago. Came out of nowhere, the pain woke me up in the night - the only medication we had in the house was Calpol (child's medicine)! Doc sent me for xrays and I was expecting floating cartilage trouble or some such, but no - it was early onset arthritis.

Knee Pain/Injuries are the worst, I'm only 15 and have trouble with my knees. Been for an Xray. turns out its the rolling in of my feet that cause it, so I have to wear insoles to stop this. Still have pain in my knees from time to time.
You should definitely see someone about it

I had knee surgery 2 years ago at 18 years old and had to have some cartlidge and ligaments out so was on crutches for a few weeks

If you knee keeps like 'giving away' then there is a good chance you have probably done some ligament damage

They will probably start you off with physio as some on your symptoms sounds very familiar and if it does get worse and last case scenario will be surgery

Even though i've had surgery etc i don't bowl anymore and its never been the same since

The funny thing is wicket keeping doesn't hurt it but bowling does and its the impact that is causing the problem

Well at the moment if I can bear the pain my knee will hold up to anything, i.e. i have tried some light bowling etc i can do it but it hurts like a dog's mom..

I also noticed the bone/muscles around the knee are sore...its my right kneed, i bowl right handed as well, and on the outside of the knee a little below the knee the bone hurt...oh well if need to sit out this season it would suck but we'll see what the doc says on monday...

wow some of you guys have had serious trbl with your knees, just out of curiosity how do you rank the pain? what is and what is not doable because of pain?

So for e.g. getting out of the car has been fairly painful for me, going up/down steps hurts but not as much etc..

I had knee pain for years, after trying physio and other areas, eventually a sports physio recognised I had short hamstrings. By doing daily stretches and stretching more before games the pain has eventually disappeared. Give it a try it really worked for me

Glucosamine can help with arthritis (in my experience), but you do have to take it regularly, it's a prevention rather than a cure and is not a pain killer.

Just an update that my knee is better now, had minor acl and mcl damage which with daily exercise and physio started getting better...basically more i rested the more it hurt so daily workout (gentle) of some sort was a must...took 3 months but feels much better now...everynow and then it feels a little stiff but much better overall
