Bat grips
« on: June 28, 2012, 02:45:14 AM »

How many grips do you guys usually use ?

I value the pick up of a bat highly and I have been told that an extra grip does help with the pick up.

Thoughts ?

I have two on my current bat, but that's how it was when I bought it. I didn't do it through preference; it just felt like a great pick up and happened to have two grips. I don't know if I'd ever add extra grips or not though. I saw Keiron Pollard has five on his bat!

I think I'm going to ask for two grips. Judging by the other bats my cricket club, I like the pick up and feel of the bats with more padding.

many people use a one and a half grip combo - a bit like the bats in this pic, but as mentioned above, it does make a difference how the handle is shaped...

I'm a bit retarded when it comes grips. On some bats I just have double thickness chevron whilst some I have double thickness chevron along another thin grip (or half).

So for me it also depends on handle thickness.

Why am I retarded? I have two GM bats, both are same model (LE), on one I have double thickness chevron and half grip underneath while on other I have double thickness cheovron and a Salix type (like on SAF Ifinity in above picture) on top

I have 2 grips on 3 of my bats.  My bat I got for this season though, a GM Halo 606, has one of GM's special control grips on top of the original grip, which effectively makes it 2.5 grips... Feels quite nice to pick up too

I heard that you have womens hands Wilkie, which some men may find strangely endearing!!
I like an oval/semi-oval handle of medium girth! I have large hands but find I can play more confortably if I don't have 6 or 7 grips on the handle  ;)

The females love my small hands, work wonders with the massage oils!

A single chevron grip when I am playing well. A grip and a half when I get out cheaply, instead of putting it behind and focusing on next game. I start tinkering with everything till the next game.

I used to have two on my Kookaburra Rogue, and would recommend that - as a general rule of thumb - two is the minimum amount to use, especially if they are thin grips.  Not only does it pick up better, but the ping feels so much nicer, and you don't get much - if any - of those horrible vibrations when you toe end the ball.

However, on my current weapon of choice (Salix Praestantia Performance), I only find myself needing the one as it comes with the lovely thick Spiral grip.  So, for me, it really depends on the thickness of the grips and they vary a lot from grip to grip...
