Rory Hamilton-Brown steps down as Surrey captain
« on: July 02, 2012, 10:15:39 PM »

See he has stepped down for the time being so he can go on compassionate leave following the death of Tom Maynard. Still hard to believe he is dead...  :(

Surrey are lucky to have Gareth Batty to be able to step in...probably just the kind of character all the young players at Surrey need to lead them at present. Nasty business all around though.... :(

R H-B has quit totally now as Surrey skipper. http://www.kiaoval.com/hamilton-brown-relinquishes-captaincy/

a bit of a surprise.

we can only speculate as to whether he thinks it will give him more of a chance of replacing KP (Maynard may have been in line and now Rory moves up a slot...) or whether he has been pushed by the club for the aledged drinking culture...

6 hundreds in 90 innings and average under 35 hardly endears him to England cause.

Going through a transformational times at both England and Surrey

He has been outstanding (up to the death of Maynard) this season and has a load more experiance than a few of the other players who have been given a go. His record is better than Vaughan's and Trescothic's before they were picked.

He'll be back as captain, he has time on his side.
I think that it suits both RHB & the club - freed of the responsibility he should improve one of the worst batting sides in Div 1.
