John didn't have a press when I was there, he said it was still down at his old workshop. But from the clefts I could see there, they all looked like part mades, and like I said his connections with Newbery suggest that he may source clefts from Mr K.

I don't agree that a bat can't be re-balanced. I think, as has already been suggested, that it just needs to be done by someone who knows what they are doing.

Superb movie name dropping Johnny! I think personally if a batmaker has the ability to make a bat from scratch and it be balanced, surely shifting a bit of weight from a bat and balancing it is a relatively easy thing for a talented craftsmen?

Looks to be quite bit of meat up at the top that could easily take 1 or 2oz off the weight. Take a bit off around the toe and your basically sorted! Are you gonna go to John and get it done or let someone else have the honour?

I emailed John about it and he quoted me something silly to do it, so I don't I'll go that route, although I do want to try and salvage the stickers, which I'll use my trusty hair drier method to save them

Matt from H4L took my 666 from 2'12.4 to 2'9.2 - 3.2 oz difference.  Losing that much will make a difference, in the case of my bat the toe was a fair bit thinner. The spine was less pronounced as well as the edges being trimmed down a couple of mm. Neither mattered as I don't hit many balls on the toe and the profile change to a more tendulkar style, ie. big edges low spine. Suited me fine as a big middle I couldn't lift seemed pointless, rather have a wide middle and a little less power. Now I am able to lift the thing and use it as I intended. In my view the bat goes as well as ever, thanks to the greater bat speed and the skill of the bat maker.

It's sad that your bat has sentimental value, Wilkie but I'm sure your old man would rather see you make some runs from the pavilion than struggling! Saunders' example is a good one for you. The tricky thing is not changing the aesthetic of the bat too much while removing weight from something that is finished. It's a real headache and a tricky project. You can see he's near enough ended up with a different bat in the photo which you muct prepare yourself for if you want as much as 4 oz taken off. If you can get the work done in front of you, then you can try the bat for pick up as it's being worked on rather than just asking for a quarter of a pound to be chopped off of it!

Bat was received back from it's diet today. I will add pictures soon!

No loss of 'ping' middle is near enough the same size, and pick up and weight is perfect. All in a all a cracking decision to have it done I think.

Big thanks for Ryan, cracking job. Will do a full review after CSI Miami!
