what would everyone use when stood up glasses or lid.

I have just started keeping & have not used either yet as been going for best vision

The Boucher injury will make people start to think about this a lot more as even with a helmet you won't be protected against a bail which can get through the grill. I think Jack Russell always wore sunglasses when stood up for tho reason, certainly later in his career anyway.
I have been thinking about getting some sunglasses to wear with a helmet but not sure what to go for

I'm an old fashioned sort of keeper and wearing a helmet when keeping is something new and something I find strange. I've no problems batting in one but keeping in one just does'nt feel right. I seem to lose sight of the ball more. However the Boucher injury does make me think about eye protection but again the level I play at (Staffs league one) it might seem a bit over the top.

If it was eyewear it would have to be Oakley M frames.

I suppose its a hazard of the job and one I think that most if not all keepers accept.

I've never thought of it before now having started wearing a lid for keeping in the last couple of years I thought I was covered but this has shown its not the case.
Interestingly I'm the other way round to you, no problems keeping in a helmet but hate batting with one on

Can't be dealing with a helmet when standing up, feel like i lose sight much more, and it's way too hot/uncomfortable. I personally go for a gumshield, under the assumption that if I do have a ball top edged into my mush, it'll bruise/split/break my face, but 99% of time that would heal fine. Can't regrow teeth so I try and look after them!

Still doesn't solve the problem of being hit in the eye.

Perhaps there's a market for wicket keeping goggles? Wouldn't be surprised if Aero come up with something along these lines in the next year or so...

I wear a helmet as only keep in midweek but when kept full time used an aero mask as light comferrable and great protection

if your standing up to the stumps in any standard of cricket then eye protection is a must and should become second nature, if you don't like the helmet option them Oakley's are by far the best other option as they are superb. They can be worn in any light conditions as you can change lens and they are very very strong and durable.

Obviously take care not to scratch the lens and you will get many many years service from them, they may well set you back �100 or so but they will repay you with great service and not to mention they look the part as well. I'm not a keeper although ive done it the odd occasion so if i was then id be wearing Oakley's in every game, doesn't matter the standard an injury could happen to you.

I got hit in the head at the age of 12, was wicketkeeping standing back and went down into long barrier to gather a full toss, as it bounced between me and the stumps it hit the lip of a small trench that had been dug across the field for drainage, it kicked up massively and hit me in the forehead before i could move, splitting my head open. Freak accidents do happen and I accepted that it was an occupational hazard. The only time I call for a lid standing up (on top of gumshield & glasses) is when the batsman is swinging wildly and I'm worried I might get clubbed in the head going down legside!
