England win toss and Bat - big decision. Personally I would've bowled with the weather around.

I thought that mate. Could be a strange decision that. Thought Strauss may have backed the bowling attack to knock over a few saffas early with the overhead conditions hmmmm

Indeed, but at least it shows the confidence he's putting in the batting and also get first use of the pitch. Only time will tell if it was a good decision.

Yeah, only time will tell. Could also be trusting the reputation of the oval wickets. They always turn after a day or two and Swann is a far superior bowler to Tahir

Very interesting. Might be that he wants to make a bi of a statement first up.
Could go either way. Let the games begin!

saw a twitter feed saying the wicket was "very dry". I think that might have alot to do with it.

Looks like an absolutely flat dog of a wicket!
Very dry, possibly the result of hang it under covers for a long time and thinking that there would be no need to add any moisture because of the inclement weather conditions.

Sounds like SA's bowlers are resorting to their usual tactics of trying to bore a batsman out.  Wrong 2 guys to play that trick on!

Ask the Aussies if that works?

Cook and Trott can play boring bowling all day!
They need to try that tactic with KP, as it's likely to work better on him!!

Having spent the day at the oval, my observation would be that if you don't make the batsman play then it makes it a lot easier for them. Morkel And Steyn were both mostly too short and wide. Philander made trott play and miss more than either. Really it looked like an in form batting pair against an out of sorts pace attack. Let's see what happens tomorrow....
