I have a feeling that his SA team might well be stronger than the England one that rose to the top of the tree last year!

I'm not sure, as good as SA are, and certainly deservingly winners of the series, I don't think anyone  could say that England played to their optimum. The lack of runs was disappointing, Only 1 hundred vs 5 and only two batsman averaging 50, both who only played 2 tests (Swann and KP).
These are certainly not excuses, however this was not an England Team playing to its full potential.

Cook and KP both scored hundreds - but was the poor batting caused by good bowling... in some cases yes - but there was certainly some seriously muddled thinking in the top order.

The same argument could be made with England's bowling to SA,which Jimmy says wasn't up to scratch

South Africa had the best batsman, the best bowler and the stand out game changer of the series, and were the fresher side to boot, ergo thy were deserved winners.  Look at the Wisden idea of a composite xi for the series and ask how many English players would you honestly select?  I'm guessin a maximum of four, but most likely two or three (Pietersen, Prior, Swann)?

So then number 1 spot is up for grabs today  :)... would rather trade a loss of this series to win the T20 world cup :D... which I dont think we will win.  :(..

Each of them is auditioning for the title of Australia's Darren Anderton though...

In Cummins case, that is a far call!

Sick note Cummins!

Bairstow and Woakes into the team then, good chance for these two to showcase what they can do
