bats...bats...bats...
« on: July 16, 2012, 11:52:10 AM »

Ok, so I've got a few new bats to show!

You've seen these before, details on them can be found here.... http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=16586.msg267163#msg267163

...and the new additions....

Kookaburra Recoil 700

Got this from the activinstinct sale, it cost me £90! 2lbs 10oz, 6 straight grains, big profile with 35mm edges. Going to keep it in the cupboard for use over the winter and into next year.

Wessex

I got this from a team mate in a part exchange, they were made about 10 minutes from me but haven't seen many or heard much about them. 2lbs 8oz, lovely classic profile, lovely brown binding!

Tusker Jnr

I rescued this bat from the equipment shed at my old school, we used to use this along with a twin bat at lunchtimes to hold our own games. It holds great memories, still in decent condition. It has anti scuff like film all over it

The middle on the wessex looks far too high for our slow low southern tracks!
Our strip from yesterday resembles a small French Village Post Nazi invasion!

Were you at home? I remember grinding out a 47 on your soaked pitch once!

The Wessex is a lovely bat, will probably try to shift it on though

Yep I remember that game.
It was actually raining a fair bit too.
Played against Craig McLean yesterday. He had 50 odd using the big Scoop

Yep. We were looking good to go up but, as every year we will slowly tail off and finish 3rd bottom again!

I do love a nice bit of Symonds!

If anyone has a good condition Symonds Super Tusker (the top of the range one) then please sell it to me.... ;)

I am really looking forward to using the Recoil, but going to wait until indoor nets to start preparing it for next year!

Would like the wood to be a bit darker, but a little oil will help that

I seem to remember some of the super tuskers having quite an unusual profile - a bit angular looking with a very high spine.

Bit of history on the SS Turbos - they came out during a period of 'turbo madness' (Porsche started it!) and turbo was added as a sales grabbing name to anything and everything.

I well remember a guy turning up with one, full of hubris, until a teammate picked it up for a bit of a heft, and with every pick up and tap down supplied 'Vroom, Vroom' noises. Ah, the camaraderie of the changing room!  :D
