Kookaburra Blade Special Edition - what do you all know?
« on: July 31, 2012, 04:04:38 PM »

Anyone know anything about these? Lovely weight for its size (2lb 7.8oz) and seems decent to bounce a ball off. Picked it up cheaply as I didn't know what it is. Anyone else have a clue?

Was released in 2008 - retailed at about £100 from memory. Cricket Supplies stocked them

For a bleached grade 4 bat... That looks pretty damn good... How much you get it for Tim? I suspect that it isn't actually a grade 4, and maybe just been mislabeled? Either that, or they have hid lots of blemishes well, but the grains look nice. 8)

I'd say it is probably g3 willow. Was £20 and is for a team bag.

I doubt 4 star willow is grade 4 willow as the bat to the left is 5 star willow, which by your theory would make that grade 5 willow. Why make a special edition grade 5 bat?

This is my first cricket bat. But mine is not special edition. I will post some pictures. I feel the pickup and balance is good on this bat. But I feel the punch is always missing when you hit a shot. You can use in nets probably.I highly doubt you can use in match situations.

My bad, misread. :P I was wondering why they would make the Kahuna 5 star, but the Blade grade 4.  :-[

What does 5 star mean? Is it Grade 1 willow?

I have seen several older Newbery bats that were labelled 5 star. Would that be the equivalent of their SPS range?

Not quite Skipper. :P I think the Newbery 5 stars are the 3rd grade, although in terms of willow grading, probably grade 2/3. I think 5 star bats are bats which are only given to specific retailers to sell. Like some retailers deal with GM let's say, so they get sent 5 star GM bats by GM themselves. At least this is what I think I read a while ago...

Indeed - Newbery 5 star is the lowest grade but some would argue that some 5 stars go very well!!
Next is the Players which is (lower) grade 1, verging on the grade 2 in some cases.
Then is the SPS which is the Daddy!! They did have the C6+ which was the absolute top with the carbo handle and highest price tag before the laws on carbo handles changed!
