Batting troubles
« on: August 03, 2012, 07:59:41 PM »

A lot of my scoring area is in the leg side and that is where i score the majority of my boundaries which doesn't bother me but what does and is why i need your help is that sometimes when I try and hit straight or to the off side i drag the ball to the leg side can anyone help me stop this. Could the be cause by using a bat too heavy for me or that I have a much stronger bottom hand due to tennis and therefore dominates. Thanks for the help in advance

sounds like your bottom hand is taking over a bit.
that isn't always a bad thing, but certainly all help hitting straight is worth thinking about.

I have found having an extra half grip on my bottom has really helped me play a little less bottom handed.

also work on practicing with just your top hand on the bat in the nets or with throw downs.

As mentioned above it is your bottom hand, In nets you should use hingeing which is useing only the thumb and index finger of your bottom hand, once you feel that you are playing alright and your bottom hand is not domination go back to your original bottom hand grip (because you should get a clear idea of how much bottomhand to use). Do not use hingeing inanactualmatch as you need bottom hand control for back-foot and percision.

maybe you are dropping your front elbow when trying to hit straight and this causes the bat not to come thorugh straight .... .Buzz is the man for this!

Thanks for all the help this seemed to help in nets on friday and then saturday in the match apart from a couple of occasions, and I think this was due to my front elbow dropping like Garrett said.
But one problem I found in nets was that I felt I didn't want to drive as i felt i would go in the air. So would you recommend netting with a partner and trying to drive everything full to see what lengths i can drive. Any other drills which i can do in the week to make me more confident driving in matches.

Sorry for all the questions but I am a pretty young and inexperienced batter, an ugly batsman, but when driving and driving on the up is it all about keeping the front elbow high in order to keep the ball down ?
thanks again

to an extent and your body position, however I wouldn't worry about that for the time being, work on the basics rather than a really tough shot!
