Turf Wickets
« on: August 09, 2012, 10:25:29 AM »

Hi all,
This coming season will be my first season playing majority of my games on turf pitches, I have played on turf a few times previously but:
Are there any basic tips that you guys can offer me for bowling and batting on turf?
And how tight should i tighten my spikes?
By the way i am a Fast Bowler
Thanks.

I personally have my spikes as tight as possible, don't like/want them to be loose. Also wear your spikes and may be find a grassy field and run about a bit / try to bowl with a slow smooth run-up to get used to it. When i run i don't really pull my knees up too high which can sometimes cause the spikes to catch the ground/grass and trip me so had to fix that and make sure my feet were high enough off the ground.

Only other thing to watch for is how hard is the surface you are going to play on and how long are the spikes, for e.g when i switched from reebok shoes to puma i realized the spikes on puma were slightly longer so had to get used to them...

as for batting i couldn't tell you much...

Right, forgive me here, but you like your spikes to be as tight as possible as opposed to what exactly? Loose and falling out?  :D

I think that was one of his questions ??? so i answered how mine are :P, i do know a couple of guys who don't tighten them all the way so in case that their spike gets stuck/catches on something unwanted it will pop out instead of tripping the person and falling...

Doesn't he lose spikes left, right and center, even when i screw mine in as tight as possible i still lose plenty.

Yup and then asks for my spare ones, my concern was that if he lost some spikes in the field it might dangerous for fielders and he might lose his footing while bowling if he did not realize he is missing some spikes but hasn't happened yet although he hasn't lost any this year so might have changed his ways a little..
