Bowling Machine 1 - Nick's Foot 0
« on: August 16, 2012, 08:48:10 PM »

After getting pinned at 80 mph from about 19yards today at nets, I'm beginning to think that I can't play cricket anymore. I'm in the worst form of my life and can't seem to hit anything. I need some [good] advice about minor technique changes that might help me get into better positions. I've tried triggers (no good), tried putting my weight over the front foot to get my balance forward and make it easier to get forward or back. Have no ideas really about what to do and I'm starting to spit the dummy. Any-one with [useful] ideas, more than welcome! As a coach, I reckon I could fix some-one else but I haven't a clue on myself!

Cheers
Nick

Well your in the same situation as me or slightly different to be fair, i go in the nets and smash everything but with proper shots and i look quality however i go in during a game and i cant get it off the square.

Ive tried may things such as a trigger and a forward press as well as different guards and net after net after net after net after net but nothing is working for me and im pretty angry, it could well be time for the swing from the hi and just maybe something could click for me. I'm sorry its not any advice but at least we share the same frustrations if thats any comfort.

Lol not really mate. I'm just batting like a tool all the time to be honest. Top score of 37 all season and only 170 runs all in.... thats 12 league games lol. Literally got bowled by the bowling machine 8 times and I once felt pretty comfortable in that scenario!

Yeah mate, crap. Maybe should just turn the bowling machine down to 55 and batter runs in the 3rd team for the rest of my days. I'd rather give up I reckon!

How abt starting with slower pace and getting a friend-teammate to watch you, as you get more comfortable up the speed!! friend could point out if/what you are doing wrong.

Also beating a dead horse but are you watching the ball? i make that mistake a lot so tell myself to not just watch the ball but actually watch the ball bounce.

By the way condolences to your other foot for losing a mate..

Top score of 19 in the league for me this season (i dod score 43 in a cup game, but i never count cup runs) - I've gone from 1st team down to 3rd team, but still no joy.

I've actually given up nets, as being crap with  no practice feels marginally better than being crap whilst trying to work hard at your game.

I guess I'm now trying to not even think about it and hope that everything magically clicks.. I am due an eye test though. I'm in a profession where deteriorating eyesite is notorious, and I did start wearing reading glasses 18 months ago

Have you taken any lessons mate? I know it sounds obvious, but £50 spent on coaching for a couple of coaching hours is a bargain as it massively improves your game!
