Dave, you might be short (No Swearing Please), but why use a narrower bat?

Surely you want a custom made harrow length with a full width blade

And I'm sure the answer to the actual question is dependent on the bat maker - I'm sure most of the custom brands still use same willow and pressing - I know my custom batmaker of choice does, and I reckon if you ask him Dan would too

Why due to the bat width??

I do find handles slightly big and I find the top of the handle restrictive

I like light bats too around 2lb 6oz

The h4l Matt did for me would be ideal. It's a harrow length/full width with a thin SH. It weighs 2'9 with 35mm edges. I'm sure you could get a 2'6 version with slightly smaller edges. Bat no 365.

Dave, for your specifications we would recommend the following:

Blade Length: 1/2" shorter than standard - Harrow length (21 1/2")
Blade Length: Standard - 4 1/4"
Handle Length: Standard short handle - 11 1/2"
Weight: 2lbs 6ozs to 2lbs 7ozs

Funnily enough we have a Special Reserve in stock at these exact specifications! Let me know if you want a few photos?

I've been using a harrow this season as an experiment. Have an old topic on this:
http://184.154.5.91/~customb3/cbforum/index.php?topic=13978.0

I'm only 5' 4" so not sure you qualify as being short (No Swearing Please)! Used a Newbery Uzi which has an inch shorter blade and loved it. This gave me the idea of using a harrow. I'm using a Willostix Stick bat but doesn't seem like a harrow as it weighs 2.10. It's suited me very well and scored 4 fifties in 8 games. Not told any team mates that is a harrow and they have not noticed. Good thing is that you can get a top end bat for a fraction of the price.

I gather James Taylor uses a standard bat but has an inch chopped off the handle. If it works for him then I'm sure it should be fine for us.

In Aus they have the almost perfect bat size for you - Small Mens. Most brands in. Aus do it - GM, GN, Bradbury etc

I had got a SM GN 888 series 6 from Meulemans and it was a amazing stick. Th balde was 1/4th inch narrow, but never found that to be a big concern or limitation.

Funnily, a SM costs less than half of what a SH bat in the same grade of willow would cost - worth a try.

One of the uses I've found for our impact sheets is you can use them to see what part of the face of bat you are hitting. If you go and have a fairly long net with an impact sheet on the bat you'll get a good idea of how it would effect you if the blade was narrowed down a bit. A regular match cricket ball compresses down to about 20mm on impact on the bat. By checking the impact sheet you can see how many would become edges with a thinner bat. You can then have a bat custom made to whatever width suits you best.

We've made a couple of bats that were non-standard widths. On one we only reduced the width on the top 9" of the blade, the rest remained 4.25".

We've also customised a number of handles. No one has ever come back and said that the balance or pick up changed when an inch or two was taken off the top of the handle.

Happy to send you some sheets and help with the analysis if you like.

I have used a SAF custom made harrow 2.8 lbs. I have also used an academy sized vampire bas bought off Asadbhai.
http://uzisports.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_33&products_id=562. I am only 5" 4' and felt better using the harrow bat. I am currently using a short handled bat. I am not sure but would someone be able to tell how much difference in size would be there between a harrow and SH of the same weight ?
