Bank holiday Monday store visit and a cool new stick
« on: August 27, 2012, 10:28:24 PM »

Hi Guys

I have been a reader of these forums for a while - this is my first post in a long time, because I want recognise Asad for the consistent outstanding service and to share the new bat I found.

This bat is my second purchase from him; I bought an entire set of mainly SS gear last year - SS Ton LE, a GN player bag, batting shorts, SS LE pads and SS millenium gloves - all quality kit and well worth the money.

My old bat was awesome, but in a moment of stupidity I lent it to a buddy for a T20 innings yesterday, he went for a wild blind cross bat heave and broke the toe.

So the reason I made 2.5 hr round trip to Asad's shop in bank holiday traffic, is because the entire shopping experience at Uzisport is a pleasure and it's one of favorite toy stores on the planet. He encourages you to pick up the bats, put on the gloves, pads and helmets. Asad is more than happy to talk you through each bat brand, the pros / cons and all with zero sales pressure. The place feels secret and special, he genuinely cares and it shows in the things in the shop.

Today he stayed open longer just for me and then took time to show over 15 bats, many from the stock room, before I chose this one - what do you think?

It's an Asad special that has a lovely pick-up:

This is the only snap I took, he is knocking it in for me and I shall have better shots of it on Friday.

So here's the my message - if you love bats and are ever near Swindon, visit this store. It is a hidden gem and destroys shopping in London "specialist" stores. The range of bats and gloves/pads are the best I have seen anywhere and I have been to a lot of shops.

Asad is a genuine enthusiast who wants you to love your kit and enjoy playing cricket with it.

Hope that helps and if you live near Oxford give me a shout!

Hmmm... If you still have the old bat and the parts of it, post a picture up! I may be able to repair it for you! :)

Congrats on the purchase of what looks to be a gorgeous bat! I am impressed that Asad is evn open on a Bank Holiday, let alone delivering service like that - great stuff!  :)

However, on a very different note, can you please clarify what you mean about destroying shopping in the London "specialist" stores though, as it sounds like a sly dig on IJC to me!  ???

I thought it sounded a bit like that aswell Paul lol. I'm sure it's just a bad choice of words and he doesn't mean it !

I hope he's referring to the competition here in London instead! That kind of makes sense because they also do other sports, so the term "specialists" could be questioned, I suppose...

Or he could be referring back to the stock in other London specialist stores as not everyone stocks ss, ca or bas

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies ...

@procricket - thanks for the offer, the bat now belongs to the chap who broke it, he plans to repair and use it for more T20 rampaging!

@chad - thanks for the offer, I shall send you some pics and would value your suggestions.

@petehosk - will do ;)

@itsjustcricket - not aimed at you at all, I have not been to your store and look forward to visiting. The stores I mean are all cricket focussed stores in central (north of the river) and west London.

@ toenails - yup most stores don't have the range of brands or number of bats to look at, also they are not really customer focused and try to sell you their most expensive bats without qualifying requirements/preferences.

Picked the bat up today (thanks for the fast knocking in service Asad) and went straight to the nets, here are some snaps ...

14 nice grains - the ball flies off it and it hasn't been properly used yet !  :D

What do you guys think?

We had some special bats made for players and they wanted LE stickers on the bats. This bat is one from that batch.
Madmischief is a good friend so have to give him something special
