B3 3 Stripe custom
« on: September 15, 2012, 01:59:13 PM »

Well after 2 weeks of me hounding them and them to be honest keeping me in the loop with everything here it is.

it christmas again.......

SHAPE

Well this is where it started i asked for

Profile 3
edge 6
spine 1

I got what i asked for after a few years of using Laver there old special profile i wanted something along the same lines and the B3 boys delivered it to me.

I have a strange alinement thing and can instantly tell if a bat will suit or not this will suit my needs and is the shape i wanted and got...

PICK UP

Well after the video where Blathers showed it me and said it was a tad bottom heavy i picked it up and agree but it is how i like my bats and it as envisaged when i ordered the bat.

The pick up is very good indeed this is heavier than i normally use at 2lb 9oz but after talking to the guys at B3 this is what i asked for and to be honest it is balanced very well for me because the difference from my normal 2lb 6-7oz and this is marginal.

LOOKS

Well i asked for no heartwood and got none on the face not a blemish in sight as i would have expected from a grade 1 cricket bat at this cost.

It has 9 evenly spaced grains which is about the normal for my bats i did not specify this though as not a grain lover if honest
. Stickers are different and i love the freshness of them they look really striking to me and stand out from a lot of others.

On looks alone and looks do not make a bat it is a belter.

The finish well this is the only minus about the bat it is not bad but it is a area they themselves and i know it something there working onbut they where honest about  this before they sent me the bat but to me a finish is all and fair and well but after time all bats end up the same but a better finish would have topped the initial product off.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Micheal Blatherwick was a gentleman to deal with and i got the feeling you where dealing with a mate when talking about cricket bats( and boy can i talk). The all round company has a mates feeling about it not a cold buy and go service which i personally find a great touch you feel involved at every stage and i hope they continue to do this as they get busier and busier
as for me there to much cloak and dagger in the industry or seems to be from a outsider looking in.

I even talked about other bat makers to them and they were complimentary to them in a very good way and at no time did they  give the we are better than anybody they just told me what they offer and of we went.

PERFORMANCE

Before you all jump on the bandwagon the people who know me know i will run 3 tests of the bat.

1.Bowling machine with bola balls
2.Fielding machine with new/nealy new cricket Balls
3.Match

I received the bat this morning and can tell the coverage of the middle is bigger than normal with the mallet so in the pre test state i know it is a very good bat and very well pressed indeed the responce is impressive indeed and the middle is large.

This section will get updated as i continue to test the bat but as we speak i'am very happy with the bat even though i paid a little more than i normally do for a top grade bat but so far so good.

Experience has i feel allowed me to get a feel for a really good bat early and i have that feeling about this bat similar to the one i got when i used my trusty Laver And Wood Private Bin which was used for 5 years and i get the feeling this will be my number 1 bat for some time to come.

Looks a nice enough shape Dave. Have to say that in your photos the stickers look a whole lot better than they do on the website. Hope it plays as well as it looks.

Hope the bat gets you thousands of runs and as said before, grammar has improved tremendously over previous posts, didn't notice much wrong with it at all!

That's a fair ol' chunk of wood, really nice face as I know you're not a grain fanatic like me that wants 25+ grains haha. Hope it goes well mate.

Not sure if anybody is interested with it not being a forum sponsor but here goes..

Bola Net

Well it played well pick up was as expected a tad heavier than i'am used to being 2lb 90z  but got to grips with it and it played very well indeed the profile helped my smallness and with the higher middle found it easier playing on the up was good on the back foot and went generally well but then again i expect most do with that type of bola machine balls.

Reader Test Balls around 50 overs old on the fielding machine was the real ice breaker and the reason in the end i desided to risk the bat in my last game of the season after my pb broke.

I had 2 buckets on half volleys and the bat response was super it really was but once again i expect as such but the real test was the shorter ball higher up the bat the middle is longer than most of my other bats due to the design and the quality of the pressing and the willow quality.

Match

Well was on 12 when my old trusty broke so i called for another bat the brought out my spares and i plumped up for the B3 and it did not fail to deliver in the 3 balls it faced with one flying over long off for 6 second ball before victory under our bag.

Now i know it was me that hit the shot but boy did it fly and to me i have found something special which is my match bat for sure next season no matter what i pick up over the winter.

I know we do not see many bad reviews on here and i guess nobody like the thought of money down the drain but i'am genuinely very happy with this bat and the whole process that went with it was it worth the money, yes i think it was with bats getting more and more expensive £277 delivered for a top of the range bat is not a bad coupe combined with it shaped to what i wanted not bad at all and it is after all bat number 1 so i guess i was always onto a winner.

My final thoughts are this i know there never going to be a lot of difference between most makers top bats but i feel B3 have a very good niche in the market and in time could turn out to become a very big company and i hope they keep there open"ness" about the process because it is a selling factor for me i like a good yarn when buying a bat.

Although not handcrafted from start to finish i would but this up against any handmade bat i have maybe not the pb quite yet but that took time to mature i guess after maybe 50 overs through it on machines and the game although 3 balls i very happy with my purchase.

Sorry if i rant on just trying sharing my experience sorry for my grammar and spelling.

Possible video of me netting to follow

Sounds like a good bat, stickers don't really do it for me but exactly the type of cleft I'd be after not too many grains and no heartwood!

On another note can you tell me what this fielding machine is please? Slightly confused!
