Talisman Perfect Storm bat
« on: May 20, 2009, 11:10:35 PM »

Just thought i would post this little beauty  :o
Got it off mike this evening and i'm looking forward to trying it out, but not knocking it in! The hardest part was choosing the bat - there were so many quality bats to choose from, you will not be dissapointed if you buy any of his bats!
It weighs about 2.7/8, though it feels even lighter, 18 straight grains and about 1/3 heartwood. The edges are 20mm thick, though some were thicker and a few thinner. In my opinion, some of the best stickers out there aswell. Although i cannot comment on performance yet, i can on the cosmetics and finish, which are absolutley superb!
Enjoy!!! Pick these bats up soon as Somerset County Sports.......

Bat's a beauty and quality looks good but still don't think the stickers work.

I don't know why but i just think they work really well  - the metallic wording looks good and i think the images are very unique. Though to be honest, as long as it performs well i dont care how it looks.

Yeh they look good close up on the front and I like the image, but I don't think they work well on bats. Nice to see someone trying something different though.

I suppose im probably not the best person to comment on that - i guess only time will tell. If the quality stays of a similar standard to the bats i saw today then i would imagine he would'nt have much trouble shifting them, and that has to be the most important part of selling bats rather than worry over the cosmetics.

I would again disagree lol, looks will sell more than quality any day of the week unfortunately. With an increasing number of sales conducted over the internet where the buyer can only look at one stock bat image I would say cosmetics are a very big part in selling anything.

It's only cos I know a load about cricket that I don't go on looks anymore, but take a look at something you know less well. Football boots or Tennis Rackets for example, if you're looking online at these 90% of the time you're going to look at good looking gear at reasonable prices.

On this direct topic, the bat looks wonderful no doubt about it and I'm sure Mike will sell loads to the forum where we're concerned on quality and where they're made. I might explain in another more suitable thread as to what I think makes a good design for the mass market. Could get a good debate going and of course I could well be prooved wrong on these stickers and their design.

Very nice, is this a handmade effort from the man himself?

Not convinced about the stickers, but the more i look the more i begin to like.

Good looking bat.
Mike showed me these bats approix few weeks ago. Not a big fan of the shape but pickup of the bats were very good. I prefer slightly bow in my bats.
It would be nice to know what price did u pay, Grade of the willow as with any heartwood Mike classifies it Lower grade(2,3 ), Thickness of the edges

Regards

Tom, surely it would be in your interests not to divulge the details of how to make a good design for the mass market, giving the competition a bit of a leg-up surely? I can understand where you are coming from and i agree entirely with what you say about cosmetics, alot of the time the bat with the pretty stickers endorsed by joe bloggs will get the sale over a better and cheaper bat with not so appealing cosmetics - though i stand firm in my opinion that these stickers are pleasing to the eye.
Raymond, the shape is similar to the mjolnir, precisely the reason why i puchased it. though i would say the middle is longer and larger than the mjolnir.
I've taken the bats down to the nets today just for some gentle throwdowns and it the middle seems larger than i had expected, extending quite low down towards the toe. I didn't want to cut loose and start smashing it around but i have to say that it's got a hell of a middle and just feels alot lighter than most bats i have had recently at this weight......impressed!

I don't mind about helping other brands really, I've helped other people start up in the past and done very cheap websites for other companies. I've learned a fair bit on these forums and shared a hell of a lot of information and will continue to. Giving other companies a leg-up keeps me on my toes and there's plenty of other ideas I can nick in return :)

Just thought i would whack up a quick review of the bat as it has had a bit more use of late.
Used it today at Millfield school in a friendly match  - i think it helped that the wicket was an absolute belter but the ball was flying off the bat, the middle on this bat is superb - i'm not a massive bloke but i hit some huge sixes today (cleared the sightscreen which is a big hit at that ground).
The pick-up is fantastic and as the innings goes on it still feels like your wielding a cocktail stick, i still think the bat is being played in and will get better over the remainder of the season and start of next - it really is a stonking bit of willow and i would happily reccomend one of these bats to anyone!!!
