Help! Which bat?
« on: May 21, 2009, 10:30:00 AM »

I have just come back to playing cricket, and need some help deciding which bat to go for. I am currently considering:

Puma Vendetta 5000 SH 2.10

Kookaburra Big Kahuna SH 2.12

Salix Fera/Praestantia Performance SH 2.10

Newbury Mjolnir Players SH 2.10

Which one of these would you recommend? I am not looking to spend too much money and looking for something powerful, with a big profile.

Thanks.

Max weight is probably 2.12. I'm not looking to spend that much, probably 170 tops.

there are a lot of custom made companies on this forum which will make you an entirely specified bat between £100-170 region depending on the willow grade - check them out here - http://www.custombats.co.uk/manufacturers.html
i should also mention itias cricket bats (made by tom on the forum) and talisman bats (made by mike on the forum, which are hitting shops soon)
You can get a very good bat for that price......im sure you will get flooded by emails offering you some very good bats for that price!
Good luck

TC what have you based your decisions on? The shapes of all these bats are vastly different so may not suit your play.

Decisions are based mostly on looking around shops and bats that people at my club have.

The kookaburra and puma interested me because they are both relatively cheap (£100ish) and the Salix and Newbury because they look so nice!

I don't want anything too heavy, but would like big edges and middle.

Well big edges and a middle certainly isn't what you're going to get from a Mjolnir. If you want something cheap, light and with big edges. Out of those possibly the Puma, but even then I wouldn't reccomend it. Have you tried looking an Asian brand from AS-Sports or Aswani Cricket? Or some of my bats on www.itias.co.uk

Thanks Tom. So out of the Salixs, Puma Vendetta 5000 and Big Kahuna which would you recommend?

I am going to the Salix workshop at the weekend, and am interested in the factory seconds/subs that they have.

If you're going to the Salix workshop I'd say Salix, but you're still not going to get a bat with massive edges from them.

if your'e looking for a bat with big edges and middle then i would reccomend looking at some of the indian manufacturers, pumas and kookaburras all come out of a factory in india anyway. The indian brands are cheaper and offer the same quality and what you are looking for. There are many people on the forum which deal in the indian and pakistani brands and i'm sure you will not be dissapointed with their range.
I've just seen that tom has already mentioned these - but i suppose it wont hurt mentioning it again!

I've not rated any Puma's I've seen really, Kookaburra may be ok but it's going to be on the heavy side I think.
