I guess the idea of the Scoop/Dynadrive, which are essentially the same, has been around for a long time now...

I think the person who moved from a hockey stick shape to the more recognised shape we have now.

the first concaved bat or the laminated ss turbo must be thee too.

In that case how about the pressed cricket bat?

Of recent times under the constraint of cricket laws , Hades and its offset edges was a top effort . TAS inserts and cabon core handle though not strictly legal are nice concepts .

The improvement in drying techniques more wood less weight

I guess pressing techniques have been tweaked too

Handle technology needs to follow

Them bats you mention at the top most are fads and none have proven any added benefit

I don't think it's one idea on its own. It's more a case that one idea generates the next innovation.

If you look at both a dynadrive and a jumbo, they have similar profiles.

The biggest advance was "bigger bats" in the late 70s/ early 80s. The scoop and jumbo were part of that, and from then on it's been a case of trying to get maximum volume of wood for minimum weight.

Back in the day when bats were lighter so for example 2lb 3/4/5 oz would've been the norm, wafer thin edges and toes etc. . . You know the type I mean . . . .  were those type of bats more prone to damage and splitting...?

Yup, two piece bats were probably the biggest innovation...
