looked on the forum and 2000+ members exist over roughly 4 years. Alot of spammers must be in that 1400 a week, infact nearly all of them. It would be easier to reject all applications and ask for 200 words on their cricketing influences, then post it to the forum for our acceptance!

Also noticed quite a few members sign up and never post or have visited the forum in the last 12 months.

3 steps you could take:
Install a better Captcha.
Put a ban on all .ru and .cn domains.
And install this mod http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1547

We've a fair few bans in place already to affect this, and the numbers have come down. Sadly, the listed mod isn't compatible with our version of CBF, and I've not had time to upgrade us.

Yes, as with most forums, we have a significant dormant majority!

I wonder how many of the 'dormant' majority just sign up in order to buy things in the for sale threads? Maybe that part of the forum should only be 'unlocked' when you reach 50 posts? So the dormant majority have to post in order to buy from that area of the forum? It won't effect the forum sponsors, will add a little more security to those selling gear on here and will ensure that the proper users of the forum get first dibs on kit and not lurkers who don't add anything..... :D

I joined because some of the threads looked very interesting and I wanted to ask the odd question or two. Mind you, seeing some of the custom bats on offer from the sponsors WAS like having your nose pressed up against the sweet shop window (still is)! It took a while to join but it was worth the hassle, I've been given some good advice by the guys on here when I've asked questions, so all good.

While mine took about 2monthsish I didn't actually get the confirmation email, so my membership had been approved 2 months before I actually tried logging in and realised it was active. Thus it was awhile before I started posting, maybe there are some people which have active accounts and don't know about it.

One of my mates applied to the forum yesterday and quickly clicked on the email to confirm membership but has not had approval yet - how long does it normally take for it all to go through?

It took me 2 months and 10 attempts mate !  :)
