Ideas Please - Competition for our 1st Birthday!
« on: October 06, 2012, 06:54:16 PM »

Evening all,

On Saturday October 20th, IJC will be one year old.  I really want to do a competition / giveaway to celebrate the day, but I just can't make my mind up on how to run it, where (ie. Twitter / Facebook / YouTube / here / newsletter) or what the prize should be.

I am sure some of you guys will have some ideas up your sleeve, so please do share!  :)

Thanks in advance, and look forward to seeing what everyone thinks...

Cheers,
Paul

Congratulations on your anniversary

I think the best option would be something like a gift voucher for your site of a certain value

That way people could purchase something that they really wanted/needed instead of being restrcited to the prize (although this is till a great think to do!)

Dependant on the value you could maybe do a couple of give aways for on here and twitter/facebook and get more publicity and give more people a chance to win?

Congratulations Paul, seems like ages ago that I was hassling you buying my ayrtek lid while you were opening up your store.

I like the gift voucher giveaway idea but maybe you could do some sort of giveaway on here of your personal favourite bit of kit - Paul's pick if you like.

One hour flash sale, notice given as the sale starts. A stupid amount of discount given for a short period of time.

Get a cleft, then do a guess the weight as is, maybe limited to 5 guesses each say, then the winner has it made into a bat, by bat maker of your/his choice

That has got to be the worst suggestion on here.. Firstly the trouble Paul will have to go through to get all Bat makers to agree on preparing a bat upon the competitions end, secondly what is the fun in taking wild guesses at cleft weights?

I prefer the anniversery Sale Option along with a possible Raffle for a Prize worth upto £100..

The two options i have liked so far are
1) Run a one month anniversary sale - buy one item get next iten (equal or lesser value) 25% Off
2) Give a voucher 25 off 50 or something like that - as people buy vouchers in advance and can be future customers for some time

Cheers, Amit, but out of interest, why do you specify equal or lesser value for the 25% off? And what do you mean by 50 off 25 - are they percentage discounts, order values or what?

So if someone purchase 2 bats at 150 & 250 then the 25% discount applies to the lesser value bat. Its common here in North America where you can buy one item to qualify for a discount on another item that is either the same value or lower than the first, usually it is buy one and get one half off (50%) which works out to be a 25% discount of the total amount spent on 2 items...on a flip side customer could pay 400 (250+150) and Not use half off the 2nd item and which then qualifies them for 50% off on anything that is 400 or less for a future purchase...

second part of the suggestion i am not sure i understand completely..but my guess is sell vouchers for 30-40 that have value for 50 and could be redeemable at anytime in future...we get these locally too where a customer could buy vouchers worth $200 but paid $150 for them (5 x $30) and use them in future when ever they wish to buy gear upto $200 at your store. There is no cash value for these i.e. if I purchased gear worth 175 and then i can't get 25 back even though the voucher value is 200, 25 cannot be saved for future use (one use only) etc...atleast thats what the terms are here...you can combine multiple vouchers but not use half value now and half later...hope it helps..

Also these vouchers usually do not cover tax or shipping costs, so if gear was 110GBP and VAT was 10GBP + 5GBP postage and customers vouchers were woth 125 then the customer would still have to pay VAT and shipping costs total of 15GBP (they would not retain the 15GBP from the voucher for future)

Thanks for all the ideas, everyone - certainly helped me make a decision! Chosen to go for the Gift Voucher option via a Facebook competition.  More details to follow within the next few days...
