LONDON STOPOVER, VISIT TO PACK CAVE
« on: October 24, 2012, 04:11:15 PM »

Hi all. I am traveling from the US to India and have a stopover in London. About a 12 hour halt, from 9am to 9pm. I have a few questions and would appreciate any and all inputs. I got to meet some people at University College of London. (What are its reviews like, academically? Any insider reviews?) Then i got all day ,and ideally i would love to visit Robert Pack. But is it possible to travel that distance and back in NOV. , using public transport at all advised? I heard London traffic is bad. Any suggestions?
Also, i bought a Newbery Mjolnir recently, an SPS ,Harrow size, and to my utter dismay , the shape is not a classic shape and though it is an sps, after the knocking, it still does not ping well. What are the chances that if i send it in to them, they would take an honest look at it and decide if it is good or if they will give me a new one. Also, the shape isn't what i expected. is there a possibility that they would replace it with a 5 star SH?  Well, thats that.
Also, what is the weather in London like, usually around the  second week or so of November.
Thanks .

If you've got a Mjolnir that's not a classic shape then I would suggest it's not a Mjolnir??? Where did you buy it from? They don't come in different shapes.....just different grades!

The weather in London at the start of November is grey and a bit wet usually, You might get lucky and get some sunshine but I wouldn't bank on it! I doubt it will be snowing though, so it's not all bad eh?!!

Thanks for the reply. I got the bat from Itsjustcricket, so dont doubt the quality. I guess its just what was there. But i do want to see what newbery have to say. The bat is not what i expected. It had more of a subcontinent style profile.
Reg. the weather, no snow is all i wanted to hear. Any idea about travel times to Robert Pack? I googled it, and by public transport it shows 6 hrs.  :(

it's approx 2 hours there and 2 hours back at a cost of roughly £50 + taxi fare and time to take you to rob packs. That's assuming everything goes to schedule and you get all your connections at the right time. You have some time to play with but even so I wouldn't fancy it.

Could just hop on a tube and see Paul at it's just cricket, combine it with some sightseeing? More risk free option.

I'm pretty sure the harrow Mjolnir is a different shape to the SH Mjolnir, that's probably the reason, or you bought a rouge ebay Newbery...

A fleece will do, probably still be around 10c. I remember November as clear crisp frosty days but autumn seems to have pushed into it from October, so it'll probably be wet and windy. Rarely get snow in the southeast and it's confined to dec-feb.

Thanks for the replies. Wasn't an ebay buy. bought it from paul at itsjustcricket. And the service was great. Guess it had to do with newbery. i'll be sending it in to see what they say.

As Tom said in the previous thread they are a different shape as they aren't made by Newbery in the UK, hence the Asian shape. Newbery will Probably say the same  :(

I agree, its possible that it was made in India, hence the profile. My question, why the misleading information on their website. They clearly state , it is a Classical English bat shape. Sorry if i sound rude, but i just feel misled about the whole thing. And the performance not what i expected from an SPS. Anyways, thanks for the reply.

Technically you are buying a youth bat so I very much doubt it would be Sps willow anyway, thought that was the same for most brands, and for the record if Tom says they are made in India they most certainly are. I agree it's misleading to a certain degree but I doubt they care too much about the quality of the youth bats, otherwise they'd make them in the UK at the chalet like the adult bats.
