Question: When you knock in your bats how far up the bat do you go? do you bother with around the splice or do you just focus on the middle around below?

I round off all the edges upto the top on the blade as compressing them won't do any harm rather than having one take the shoulder off.

all over the face, and then I roll the handle of the mallet up and down the edges using as much force as I can muster.

also really thump the bat with the mallet, don't gently tap it, that is no use.

difficult to spend too much time knocking it in, but I would encourage more than 4 hours... but I really like my bats warmed up.

Got to agree I take as long as it takes I do the whole face bar around the splice and only lightly do the middle I tend to concentrate just above and below the peeved middle edges and toe I use a mallet then a new ball and then place a ball on a hard surface and hit down on it if it dents I re knock.

Most,of the bat I have had have taken a couple of weeks to realy be ready

The puma and millichamp mallets reduce the knocking in time significantly. I do knock in the face around the splice a little bit as well and the top edges.

Yeah i tend to leave knocking to the middle to a minimal, focus on toe and edges, but not really bother going past roughly where the scuff sheet ends

Round off the front edges to avoid bits coming off with edges, gentle angled taps increasing in strength over time.

Dan at Chase was impressed with my skills on the edges of my old non Chase bat.

I also Focus on sweet spot to loosen up and try to work all over around anti scuff area. I avoid splice area bar the rounding of the edges . Also glance off at 45 degrees on face. With my new Chase, I have a pronounced compressed sweet spot that I can't seem to level out across the face.

Just hit too much out of the middle perhaps? ;-)

what is the reason for reduced knocking time by these mallets ?

Lignum if they are different wood make it quicker harder

I have the puma/m&h type mallets in stock if anyone would like one. Best by far for knocking in your bat.
