« on: November 24, 2012, 06:26:29 PM »

We are pleased to welcome Iain Wardlaw to the Ayrtek family as a fully sponsored player for the 2013 season. Iain will be playing his cricket for Yorkshire and Scotland next season and we look forward to seeing him in action with the full Ayrtek range.

http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/sportcricket/yorkscrick/10018435.Wardlaw_signs_up_for_two_more_years_at_Yorkshire/

Give him a follow on twitter @wardy_lad to keep update date on how he and Jack Brooks progress at Headingley next season.

We are pleased to welcome numerous new pros to the Ayrtek tea as well who will be wearing the helmets next year, details of these are being finalised over the next couple of weeks as the benefits of the Ayrtek helmets continues to gain recognition on the pro circuit.

as a Yorkshire fan can I be the first to say....erm, Wardlaw might be the worst player we've had in the thirty years I've been following the county?

actually, following a lengthy discussion over too much beer with my brothers last night, please actually tell him that he is the fourth worst player we can remember (the "committee" upgraded him over the perennially awful Chris Pickles, as well as Ian Houseman (who, to be honest, I don't recall, but I'm informed that his selection had a lot to do with having a father on the committee or some such) and David Lucas.  There was much debate as to whether Greg Blewett should also be considered... :)

he's a decent club cricketer at best
takes wickets in bradford league, but doesnt stand out head and shoulders above the rest
friends in high places clearly helps
Fellows scores plenty at club level

Ah, you see I actually had a bit of time for Gary Fellows; he was just short of first class standard with both bat and ball but he was a superb fielder, and a wholehearted cricketer.  Helps that I saw him guidfe us to a few key wins over the years!

To be fair he was a valued wicket every time Gloucestershire had to see off the Yorkies on the way to their amazing one-day haul in the early part of this century. Still struck me as a bloke who could biff twenty quite quickly but not much more.

more or less - he managed one first class ton and a few fifties but his mainvalue was his competitive spirit.

Hard to live upto your standards Mr D!

Ultimately as small company we are pleased to gain exposure for the full range of kit and were happy to have Iain on board, with the bigger brands out there its a lot easier for them to pick up players than us.
