Hi guys, with the rain lashing at my window and keeping me up, thought it would be a good time to review my Gray Nicolls Maverick from Asad at Uzi Sports
This purchase started when Asad posted the pics of his visit to Gray Nicolls. I could not believe the quality of every single bat pictured. This along with the fact that Asad stated they will play better than they look just capped it, I was buying another bat.
The maverick appealed to me for many reasons. Firstly the look of this bat for me is excellent with flash colours and simple but bold colour scheme. Secondly this bat has a mid blade sweet spot which I know gives a bat a great pick up and balance.
Once I had decided I sent a PM to Asad and he replied almost straight away and answered all the questions I sent to him. So I paid online and Asad posted next day. The bat arrived inside 48 hours.
Now the bat it's self. The weight is 2lb 10oz. This bat is a 4 star model should be a lower end grade 2/3 but you would never think that with this bat as it has 9 straight grains with just a few small butterfly marks on the face. The pick up is amazing as it feels like a 2lb 8oz when wearing my batting gloves. This model has a flat face and comes pre knocked in with a face sheet attached. Unlike some comments made about the Dynadrive the stickers are all perfectly straight and the finish is brilliant.
The performance of this bat appears to match everything elsa about this bat. I have spent about an hour with a mallet over the past couple of days and it sounds great, nice low sound with good rebound. Tonight I took into the net and had about 30 mins gentle net against a couple of spinners and I was just playing some defensive shots and gentle cover drives and it performed very well. Lovely sound and ball flew into the nets. No vibration through handle or toe and the flat face does seem to perform exceptionally well straight from the off
In closing this is a great bat. I also think Asad needs be take some credit for going to the companies and hand picking the bats for us to choose from. He does know his willow if this bat is anything to go by (also the kooks he has posted). So if you are looking for a bat in or around the £150 braket this has got to be up there.
