Help Needed Newbery (B52) or Kookaburra
« on: June 06, 2009, 06:01:00 PM »

Hi All,
I need some advice in choosing my bat! A bit about my batting -- I am a lower middle order batsmen and most of the time I am put in a situation to hit the ball hard and far! The last one I used was Hunt's county Triumph (club's bat), as such it didnt last long..but man I loved the bat....very light great pick up! I have also used kookaburra mayhem couple of times and it felt really good! One of my fav shots is the flick, so I guess probably need a lower middle!

This is what I am looking for,
1. light bat (as low as possible since I am not heavy built and largely depend on timing)
2. thick edges
3. between £120 - 150

I did shortlist Newbery B52 bomber and Kahuna Mayhem. Any other suggestions are welcome! I need to choose a bat within 2 weeks! I would like to have your suggestions about these two bats, and also any other bats you would think would fit my batting. Wondering whether we could get the weight of B52 bomber down, I remember looking at tis forum a b52 bomber brought down to 2lb 8 oz!

Thanks in advance!

Wouldn't go for the bomber mate its quite a heavy bad and the pick up is the same, very good bats but don't think it would suit you

Thanks GMH, I was bit worried about B52 bcoz it said it starts from 2lb 12oz (if im not wrong!)..But I love the curvy profile! Just wondering is it possible to order a bat with redback or any other custom bat maker similar to B52 and keep it down to 2lb 7-8oz.
Also it would be great if you could suggest some other bats!

Cheers

Im just saying if I was him, talking about getting a Redback I wouldn't buy your bats - I'd go for the Redback.

Hi Aidy1098,
Thanks for your msg.....Uzi seems a bit out of my range! Sorry!

I want something at the lowest weight range and seriously thinking about talking with Gary at Redback to see whether I can get something made similar to Hunt's county Triumph models!

Does anyone have ideas on the reliability of the hunt's county cricket bats?

AAAARRRGHHHH thought so, Thanks Slogger!

I really like the feel of county's triumph bat...and its easy pick up and the ball just pings away! Think probably I might ask some of the custom bat makers to see whether they can replicate it!
BTW any idea on Kookaburra Kahuna Mayhem....seeems a bit expensive but looks like a good bet! But bit worried about the stocks the retailer have at this time of the year!

stay away from kooks (in my experience) - they have a short lifespan and i can guarantee you the willow from a customade,  Easby, Redback, SAF etc - will be better.
I do alot of refurbs for club mates and friends and kooks always seem to come back with deeply cracked edges and massive toe problems - my advice stay away from them and their ridiculous price tags
