Redback for £130?
« on: June 06, 2009, 08:56:52 PM »

Hi All,
I need some advice in choosing my bat! A bit about my batting -- I am a lower middle order batsmen and most of the time I am put in a situation to hit the ball hard and far! The last one I used was Hunt's county Triumph (club's bat), as such it didnt last long..but man I loved the bat....very light great pick up! I have also used kookaburra mayhem couple of times and it felt really good! One of my fav shots is the flick, so I guess probably need a lower middle! But I came across the reviews for redback cricket bats and certainly I'm impressed!

This is what I am looking for,
1. light bat (as low as possible since I am not heavy built and largely depend on timing)
2. would love to have Asian styled profile with thickened edges with good pick up
3. Slightly bowed with the weight positioned towards the lower portion of the blade.
4. between £120 - 130ish

I did shortlist Newbery B52 bomber and Kahuna Mayhem. Any other suggestions are welcome! I need to choose a bat within 2 weeks!
THough I like the B52 and how it looks the weight is a on the high side starting from 2 lb 12 oz. Do you guys think whether I will be able to get one similar to that for a less weight....within by budget with redback?

Thanks in advance!

Gary could definatly make you a bat to chose specs... Redbacks are custom made so you speak to Gary and tell him about yourself and what kind of bat you want and he will discuss this with you before making you a brilliant bat.

I have a redback (along with several other top of the range bats) and the redback is the best by a mile!

Hi Leo,
Thanks for your msg!Its encouraging to hear your comments about Redback and Gary, I have read nothing but good comments in this forum! I am kind of inclined now to give it a try, if it doesnt burn a hole in my pocket!

BTW, Just wondering whether you had any experience with HUnt's county cricket bats! I just loved the triumph bat...but kind of felt that the bottom of the bats broke easily.....is it a common one or is it just because everyone used in the nets as a club bat, in our case!
Cheers

Ian - Thanks mate!
Seems I am leaning towards redback..but have few apprehensions!
Unfortunately, I cant visit the factory and if the bat I get is something that out of my requirement, is it possible to return? Bcoz if I am getting a bat off the shelf, I can feel it before purchasing! I am just worried, if the bat is something that i dont want is it possible to return it? how are ur experiences with redback?

Cheers WC

Just a suggestion - got into the shops and find a bat which shape and profile is what you find best suited to your specifications - tell gary the bat and he may be able to replicate and probably better it. This may take away some of the worries/reservations you have with purchasing a custom made bat - havin never used one i cannot comment on the quality of the bats, but i do know many of the forum members have or do own one and the i've yet to hear anything bad!
