Advice please - GN Powerbow 750i v Kooka Rogue 650
« on: January 07, 2013, 08:37:44 AM »

Hi all, I am a new member of about a week and this is my first post so apologies if it's in the wrong spot, please be gentle.

I'm in Aus and our local sport shop has some tempting discounts on the above 2 bats.   Looking for some advice or feedback from anyone who may have used either of these bats.  According to this year's catalogue from the Greg Chappell Cricket Centre the GN Powerbow 750i is a grade 2 willow with a high sweet spot and the Kook Rogue 650 is a grade 3 willow with a low sweet spot and a flat face.  Interesting that the Kook is about $70 Aus more expensive.  After discounts I can get the Powerbow for about $150 Aus or the Kook for about $205.

I'm looking to get one of these bats for our team kit.  We play a fairly low level and all our games are one dayers of 35 overs each played mostly on synthetic pitches.  Does anyone have any experience with these bats and if so what's the feedback?

I'm probably leaning toward the Kook as from a purely personal point of view I'm keen to see how the flat face performs.  However I've always liked the look of the Powerbows and am used to using a higher middled bat.

Thoughts or recommendations?

Since they're at a local sports shop, you have the luxury of picking them up and see which one picks up better. This is important.

And if you can tap these up with a mallet, then you can also see which pings better as well. But a local sports shop may not let you do that...

If pickup and ping are similar, I would go with the GN. A higher sweetspot should suit higher bouncing synthetic pitches better. It's also the higher grade and has a lower price, so even better. All the best with your purchase!

what grade wood are these bats?. £130-150 might get you something much better sourced directly from someone in the UK.

You'll be looking at a max of £100 for the stick once you include Shipping Nick, so it may not be sensible to do it that way.

Thanks for the advice.  I went for the Powerbow.  Just a tad over 2lb 9 and a nice pick up.  Taps up well on the mallet too. Know for the fun part, knocking it in.
