Freak of a GN e41 Bat - WEIRD Edges - is this possible?!
« on: January 08, 2013, 01:48:23 PM »

Some of the Gray-Nicolls bats that we hand picked a month ago have just been delivered to us, and it includes a bizarrely massive (and quite attractive) e41 500.

It weighs 2lb 8.3oz but has, get this, 47mm edges?!! What's even weirder is that the other edge is just 44mm.  I never really took time to measure both edges of bats before, as I assumed that the size of one would be the same as the other.  Clearly I was wrong.  Is this just a complete one-off, or have others experienced the same with other bats??

I will post some pics of the bat later...

for a bat that size to be that weight id expect a very light cleft, no spine height or concaved to within an inch of its life. sounds like the bat maker was having an off day and missed a couple of mm of one edge.be interesting to see the pics when you can

crap workmanship or your tape measure is wrong. I had a bat like this and I sanded the edge down.

There is a fair amount of concaving, but I've seen bats with a fair bit more... Pics to come shortly...

That is really poor workmanship I have to say... You should demand GN for compensation, then sell this freak of a bat to me at a heavily discounted price!!!  :D

You do occasionally get this with GN bats. I sold a GN Evo Carbo I got from the hut that looked good, was huge and went really well. Someone on here got it.

This is the 44mm edge...

And here is the 47mm edge...

I have checked them three times with my tape measure, and it's always read the same, so...

I'd get a refund if I was you. £240 sheets for a bat with wonky edges lol. I don't care if it has huge edges  :D

Simple answer is send it back! It can never feel quite right in the hands if one side weights slightly more than the other! Its a defect, and as such would either need to be rectified or sold as "seconds"

maybe it's a new version of the GN Edge bat. Weighted outside edge to stop you opening the face and running the ball to slip.
