Players grade.  Which (I think) is regular grade 1, with the LE & Players being grade 1+.  GN don't publish grades though, so I cannot be 100% certain.
They should just go ahead and make it a 1000 rather than 500  ;) That aside, refusing to publish grade just seems a tad sneaky to me, makes it hard for the customer to know 100% what they're getting!

As long as balence and performance of the bat is fine ... extra amount of edge is OK  ;)

Gray Nicolls produce bats in massive number so this may be the reason so answer to your QUESTION Yes :) its possible. I fink if a customer is after huge edges so he will take it as bonus   :D

I take it E41 means minimum edge of 41mm then. I have seen odd sized edges from another brand.

Going on cosmetics, I would class that bat as a grade 3

just make sure the customer sees the outside edge only ie. the big one!

Is 44mm for a 2.8 bat not also worthy of being described as "big"???!!!

Despite they should be spot on but handmade bats tend to have slight margin of error..I saw a V12 with such manifestation.

I have a similar bat Paul. I'll measure it and let you know if there is any difference in edges size

Regards

Asad
Paul,

i have measured the edges on our bat and they are exactly the same size on both edges, 42mm.

Gray's grow their own willow don't they, so grading is whatever they deem it to be. They can't be accused of upgrading Wright's grade 3 willow, as they haven't bought the willow from Wrights

The e41 is a Aus/NZ realese bat and in grading terms the 500 is third grade English Willow along with the 400 (A61)
In terms of the bat that is not on in my book return it to Grays and ask for a replacement or refund

That can't be right - the e41 500 is double the price of the a61 400?!!!

I don't think it's that big a deal. Paul has handpicked this bat so I'm sure it balances fine and pings like a mofo. I'm sure this bat won't hang around for long...

Yes, Vincent. It's certainly not getting replaced! It's not the best looking bat in the world, but if you saw it in the flesh, you'd realise it's far from ugly / grade 3. Besides, with specs like this, the cosmetics are irrelevant surely, so why does everyone keep going on about the looks?!
