Indoor Cricket
« on: January 10, 2013, 11:17:51 PM »

I've just played my first game of indoor cricket (since the odd appearance in 2011) and I didn't enjoy it. got 42* and batted properly and was never in danger of getting out. However, it was far to slow for indoor (off 38 balls).. So.. is indoor cricket worth changing how I play and taking the 'risky' singles and not worrying about it OR should I continue to just not play indoor and concentrate on being more able to play outdoors..

Opinions on the merit of indoor or is it just tap and run cricket with no real regard for your wicket.

From what I have seen its all about working the angled to play the ball into the corners making it difficult for fielders to pick up and allowing easy singles. On the basis of placing your shots and playing with soft hands I think it has its merits.

Having said that one of our most successfully batsman this year just hit everything hard and straight looking for boundaries. Overall I think you just have to treat it as fun cricket til the real stuff starts and if you don't enjoy it then give it a miss

Treat indoors like you are always in a 8 an over run chase in the last 10 overs. As in a run a ball isn't enough, this way it'll make you used to getting high overs without really slogging or aimlessly missing the ball trying to hook it over cow. I've played a lot of indoor recently and teams are getting 100+ comfortably just by getting it into the right gaps. There are singles every where. The different mindset I found works with running between wickets is when backing up, instead of waiting to called through for a single wait to be told no. That way you are always backing up and on your toes no matter what.
