Just saw it mentioned in another topic and we've discussed methods of home drying before. However, I'd be interested to see how much people have dried bats out to remove weight. Did anyone see issues after doing it?

btw - I'm not advising it at all! I am curious to see to what lengths others have gone on the weight loss front!

After all of the advice I've seen ref: 'don't leave your bat in the back window/boot of your car on a hot summer's day' it seems a bit of a dodgy prospect to me.

Did it accidentally to a Hunts Tsunami once when i was a lad.

Mum put it in the the airing cupboard around February time as she was fed up with it lying round the house all winter.

I didn't find it until the season started, it was lighter, dryer and also more brittle, it went like an absolute train though!

Lasted all of 3 months before exploding into a cloud of splinters and sawdust off the back of one powerful cover drive too many.

left my GM in the car this summer and it lost 0.4oz

Did the same to a bat during a winter and it gained an oz

Yes I have done it and know another forum me ever has

I have used 2 methods airing cupboard and radiator

Both worked and one of the bats has lived to tell the tale

Weight reduced was 2oz on one and the other was a little bit more.

The radiator is the blast methods it canbe achieved very quickly

I have since been told by a very decent source that the best method is do it gradually due to if you so it quickly it just drys out the thinner part of bags the edges and struggles to penatrate the central area ie middle /spine of the bat

It works but it will play on longevity of your bat I advice get a bat that weights and pick up correctly if possible.

One is still here and had a decent amount of use the other lasted around a season.

Yes the pick up was miles better it worked in that respect for sure.

I know quite a few pro's bats are dried out using this method and I know low density clefts are been hard to come by and to get than having perfect grains like half the time this forum suggests is plain bull.

I also found after the Inital drying the weight came back not all of it but a little bit so I did it again to get the weight I was after

But I do say this do it at your own risk best to get the right pick up and what not

I was told to place the back of the bat on the radiator to get round this.
