IPL Vs Big Bash
« on: January 12, 2013, 05:22:19 PM »

How close do you think this contest is? I'm thinking there is still a big gap between them - well in favour of the IPL. I think the crowds are a massive part of the tournaments and I can't believe how poor they are in the big bash

Personally I prefer the Big Bash. Enjoyed the first couple of seasons of the IPL but feel its become a tad tacky and over the top.

Not that close; the Big Bash doesn't even have the top convicts playing; they are playing tests or one day internationals.

This, although the IPL is miles ahead in terms of some of the quality of players playing (although some of the Indian guys brought in are utter tosh and only their cause they have to be). First few were good and enjoyable. Now it;s just a cash cow and not really that good. I don't watch it anymore tbh and just cause there are a fair indians there doesn't make it good!!

It's the flashing stumps and bails that does it for me!  The IPL has just become a window for the Indian 'stars' to demonstrate their 'talent,'

T20 is my least favorite format of the game anyway but IPL is a better standard of cricket in my opinion

I think the overall standard of cricket is higher in the big bash. IPL might have more overseas star names but the rest are pretty poor, not even county cricket standard. Also players can field in the big bash, I've seen some shocking fielding in the IPL. Like others have said it's a tacky cash cow for average Indian players.

I just feel the Big bash is easier to watch and seems more about the actual cricket and less about who's who's of the rich and famous in India and silly slogans for catches or a six.

Just my opinion though.

Spot on!
The Big Bash has perfected the flash! The general standard is better, and has more highlights for me! Also seemed a lot closer teams wise

One thing that these two competitions share is that they are too long! Interest is starting to wane in the Big Bash at about the same time the IPL does.

I do like the fact the Aussies have limited number of Overseas. IPL has 4 per team whereas English T20 and Aussie T20 have 2 per team. Much better for blending the youth in.

There are a lot more international players playing full campaigns in the IPL and no international cricket overlaps it.

And the big bash has it's share of tacky - Warnes behavior springs to mind. And flashing stumps in half-empty stadiums

It's interesting that NZ have shown the way forward on stadiums. Rather than play to 4k in a 50k stadium, better to play to 4k in a 5k stadium. NZ started moving big games away from big stadiums to traditional cricket venues with smaller capacity. Creates a better atmosphere for players and spectators.

The single most annoying thing about International cricket in England is we could fill a 50k stadium easily for big games but nobody has yet built one.

Think the flashing stumps are great.

Warne on the other hand, seems he's trying to hold onto playing at any cost. When possibly he should have gone out with some dignity.
