As mentioned in the article Arran Brindle has scored a ton in the Lincs league and has faced some extremely good bowlers (including Fahad Masood - averages 23 in Pakistani FC cricket, and is about as quick as you get over there!), and when I watched her score 80 last year she seemed to face some fairly sharp bowling (and a large amount of bouncers as well...) so I'd imagine that Sarah Taylor, being even better, would be able to deal with it.

Good luck to here I say Leo she faces quicker bowling than most on here and as keiron has rightly already said his daughter plays wepl 2nd eleven which is a very high standard

I have no problem and if she gets a chance and does well fair play.

I was never good enough to make that grade she obviously is so good luck

Tom have you ever played wepl...

Talk is cheap bud I only played league 1 and I tell you for me there not much better in club cricket thn the wepl not anywhere and if there is I haven't seen it and I have seen most club cricket  baring the odd club here and there Ealing springs to mind .

Keiron is a fair judge of the league being one of the best batsman for a long period

I haven't played any standard of cricket. But I would like a cricketer to prove themselves in a high level of club cricket, before moving up to play 2nd XI cricket.

Men have to do it. And so should Sarah Taylor.

I was just trying to say that if you look at the top teams in the wepl then they are made up of the best up and coming players in the county, players that have not quite made it and probably most important hardened players that have played first class cricket for years.

Where as certainly Somerset seconds is made up of school boys and the odd first teamer looking for practice after injury.

Sussex might be different but I think she will more than hold her own in thier seconds. It's great for women's cricket anyway.

Tom do you not believe representing your country at the sport would normally be a high enough level?
If you watch Hope Solo play in Goal the US womans team, she is easily good enough to play in the MLS

None of Somerset seconds have proved themselfsbin club cricket. It's mostly made up of Millfield school boys. Nothing wrong with that as the best club cricketers can't afford the time off work to play anyway.

In fact a few players have failed big time at club cricket but have gone on to have great county careers. Suppia and Neil Edwards being two.

No. Different intensitys. Different kinds of bowlers. And a different standard.

I think it would make sense to give her a run against some quicker bowlers in Premier Leagues and seeing how she gets on.

If she gets on okay, then by all means - but IMO she should be in there on merit for her performances in the Mens game.

Shes won a World Cup and a T20 World Cup which is pretty impressive, i get the point about bowling speeds but your average 2nd XI cricketer doesnt have these types of intense pressure games on their CV.

The decks will be much quicker and truer in county cricket than in club cricket. As a keeper this certainly helps not having the variable bounce. As a batsman she will bat on better wickets in county seconds than in club cricket.

Sussex obviously know what they are doing and I will be watching to see how she goes. Fingers crossed she does well but there will be plenty ready to slate her if she fails. I guess she knows that.

Both very fair points, and there are lots of issues around the standard of 2nd XI cricket - but for me I'll always see it as a route for young players to force themselves into 1st XI cricket for their county.

Would you make Sarah's first game against male bowlers in what would be a highly publicised County 2nd XI game?

Interesting that Sarah feels she needs to prove herself in club cricket too.

Honestly we should celebrate this moment of Cricket as a new breakthrough. A new landmark.
