Possible test return of Brad Hodge??
« on: January 21, 2013, 05:49:11 AM »

So apparently Hodge is considering returning for the Vics Shield side, with an eye on another test opportunity!!
http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/content/story/601575.html?CMP=chrome

I am a big fan of Hodge, I think he is one of the most hard done by aussie cricketers in recent times, should have been given a fair go at test level.
However, as much as I would like to see him get his dues, I find it hard to believe he will get the test call up...

What are peoples thoughts?

Can't see it happening, and a little insulting to the other batsman who are waiting in the wings for their chance.

Yeah, he would be a great player to fill the gap left by ponting and hussey.

I can see your point, however Hodge was over looked in favour of inferior players many times, so perhaps this time his talent and experience will win out.

This will depend on his shield form and the whims of the selectors though.

Yeah, but he's had his day. And I don't think inferior players ever got in front of him. He was unfortunate that he was around during arguably our best era. Why don't Martin Love and Darren Lehmann make a comeback too? (I realise I'm being a tad churlish, but you get where I'm going with it)

Hahaha, yeah I get you mate. He is pretty much no chance. Kidding himself really.

Martin Love was a top draw bat.
i loved his set up at the crease.

What about Katich, he has a few years left in him.

I agree, Katich was very hard done by, treated very poorly by CA. He should have never been dropped in my opinion.

Do you mean top drawer, or has top draw become a phrase since i left? I've seen a few on here use it.

Dont think Katich should be called up. This is nothing to do with the fact that he has signed for lancs and should hopefully help them back into div 1.

My all time favourite cricketer top class player and top class bloke.

He should have played more tests shame about his foe ..

Doubt a major comeback but mark my words not many in first class will out score him

It would be great for the Vics & for cricket to see him playing more cricket, however, the Australian selectors wouldn't pick him because of his age. They would see the decision to select him as a "risk". A shame really, he would add plenty to the top 6.

If he's in form, and his T20 form is fantastic at present(different format but form is form), and he's the best man available why not?

He's competing with guys like D Hussey and Maxwell, Hodge at his best is vastly superior to D Hussey and is still better than Maxwell at anytime.
