What would you do?
« on: January 25, 2013, 09:41:00 PM »

Hello all!

I myself I'm 19 soon turning 20 and I've played a low level of cricket for 3 seasons now purely because I love the club I play for but now I'm bored of that level of cricket I'm an off spin bowler who can bat and field a bit of an all rounder, a team I played junior cricket for have asked me to go play for them they have a first team in a prem and the seconds are league 2 they've guaranteed me a place in the seconds but my question is do I play for the club I love playing for week in week out but I'm bored of the standard or do I push myself to go to a club where I'm gonna play a higher standard? What would you do? Play for a team of friends or start fresh with a challenge?

Move and give it a go otherwise you'll never know if your good enough. If it doesn't work out you can always go back.

Had this a few times before, I'll give you a quick summary:-

1. Play where you enjoy your cricket, if you think in your case playing a higher standard means more enjoyment then that's fine
2. Beware of promises, the grass isn't always greener - you might not get the opportunities you expect
3. What will you stand to lose by leaving?
4. Pushing yourself is great but to much too fast and you'll be dis-heartened

Similar situation but in terms of job prospects in cricket I've been told to play for higher clubs. Unfortunately I like where I play

Push yourself over this Winter in terms of your training and try improve. Then see if you are at a good enough level to play at a higher level for your club, and if not, then move clubs. :)

I'm currently in a similar situation regarding moving clubs anyway. I am torn between 'level' or going somewhere where I'd probably enjoy it more etc.

I'm coming to the conclusion that 'level' doesn't actually matter, it's about enjoying your long saturday/sundays and getting your money's worth! Leave the 'level' chasing to the ego's.

you should always try to push yourself to be the best you can be. In a years time you will think thank god I made that move or I bloody hate it here I shall return to where the grass is greener...

But if you stay put you will never know
