Nah Taylor well down the pecking order now. Root, compton, Morgan , bairstow all infront of him

Shame really I think he's a classy player (not that I have anything against the other lads)

He most definitely is, got blooded against the best side in the world and stood up to scrutiny, and is still (in my view) the best of the young batsmen, hands down. Supreme talent. Has several gears, and has excellent temperament. This innings is still one of the best one day innings I've seen, was a joy to watch http://www.espncricinfo.com/county-cricket-2012/engine/match/542755.html and I think along with Root + Bairstow (and possibly a few others, Hales for example) will be in the side for quite a while.

I don't think Morgan is ahead of anyone in the order these days.

Next cabs off the rank (assuming Root and Compton are in)  Bairstow, Taylor, Morgan?

I think he has the minerals to make it for sure, I still find this scorecard staggering. Yes it's Div 2 but on what must've been a green top he gets 2/3rds of his teams score.

My England 1st Xi

Cook
Compton
Trott
KP
Root
Taylor
Prior
Swann
Tremlett
Finn
Anderson

My reasoning is I like the idea of compton and cook batting for days and days and days and days... oh and days. With the class of Trott and a licence given to KP we have batting power galore. If all goes wrong then Root and Taylor are way good enough to drag it back OR play that run a ball innings. Prior is well, a must. Swann is well.. swann, best spinner we have. Tremlett is so under-rated. Finn and Andermong get in for pace/bounce and swing.

My back ups are Bairstow, Bell, Meaker,Broad, Monty. Reasons, Bairstow is next in line to me for 5/6 postiion and Root is just waiting for a top slot to open up (So if compdog fails to shine by the end of the ashes I'd drop him). Bell, well he's an ignigma... he's got everything but just doesn't perform. But he's still worth being a drinks boy. meaker is there as he is probably up there wicket taking wise, with broad as second back up. Monty is our second best test spinner currently so he's there..

That's my line up.. pick it apart at your leisure.

Agreed he deffo looks like he has the stones for a hard fought series against the Aussies and has the skills to back it up

I had a word with Mr Flower. Morgan's still ahead of you and me (just).

I reckon we'll line up like this:

Cook
Compton
Trott
Pietersen
Bell
Root
Prior
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Finn

Have not been convinced with Broad for a couple of years now but really can't see him being left out unless injured. Bairstow will probably be first reserve batsman and Onions/Bresnan will be the reserve seamers.

Speak for yourself, I reckon I'm just edging Eioinoen in the longer format at the moment - it's all this reverse-sweeping!

Anyone see tremlett getting back into the side now he's on his way back to fitness? Seems to be the forgotten man at the moment

I forgot Hales.. I'd take him along too. With the view to starting to get him fully involved as the long term replacements for Bell/Trott or KP.

@ad2606 - umm, did you not see my post. If Tremlett is back fit I'd take him as he will offer more than Broad. And realistically we shouldn't need more than a top 7 to get us the runs

Sorry multitude of names + lack of sleep must have missed it! Agree that realistically we should only need runs from top 7, can't see the ultra defensive selectors going down that route though its a shame as I really rate tremlett deffo a better option than broad or even Bresnan
