Sharpening solutions

This is one for the batmakers.
What do you use to sharpen your tools and keep them razor sharp?

I've been using 4 grades of diamond sharpening stone.  It does an alright job, but the blades aren't ultra sharp.  I've just invested in a 1000/6000 grit combination japanese water stone, as my current sharpening stone only goes up to 1000 grit.

Also, how do you sharpen your drawknife?  That's the one I always struggle to get sharp...

normally with sharpening you take the blade to the sharpening stone. ie stone on the bench and the plane blade moves across it. with a drawknife its different. its alot easier holding the drawknife still and moving the sharpening stone across the blade as the handles are normally in the way. loads of youtube videos on how to do it.

Yeah.  I find it easier to hold the drawknife between the crook in my elbow and shoulder.  I think it would be easier to sharpen if the blade was straight.  I seem to get parts of the blade sharp, but not the whole lot.  I'm hoping my new sharpening stone will make life a bit easier.

After reading a few reviews etc i decided to get one of these.

Oh, i got my "work sharp" tool sharpener the other day and I'm very impressed with it. It works a treat sharpening ether with jig's or freehand. I'd recommend it to anyone! Made my drawknife/ plane blades razor sharp after a few seconds.

Very easy due to the clearance of the machine, took me seconds to put a very sharp edge on mine. i don't know how i lived without it tbh. Really good for round bottom plane blades too.

No but you can easily freehand.  I've done that as I haven't time to set anything up yet and they're still really sharp. I'd definitely recommend one. Can't go wrong for £100
