My flat mate has just bought a set of salter scales and ive always been intrigued as to what my bats actually weigh.
So off i went and sneakily took them into my room and weighed my bats and i found some interesting results!

All bats were weighed with 1 grip on (chevron) and with a hammer edge sheet
3 of the bats had to guards on and 3 didn't and all 3 had been oiled

So bat number one i weighed was my H4L Hellfire which i requested to be 2.9 finished.  I weighed it on my scales and it came in at 2-9.3 so perfect

Bat number two was my Puma Bionic 6000, i bought this bat with the knowledge that it was 2-9.5 and i weighed it and it came in at 2-10.7

Bat number 3 was a SG RSD Pro, i was told the bat weighed 2.9 and it weighed 2-9.2 (bearing in mind i have removed all the SG stickers

Bat number 4 was my SAF Mechten V2, i was told the bat weighed 2.9, i weighed the bat and it came in at 2-10.7 (quite a bit of difference)

Bat number 5 was a recently purchased M&H Solution which was sold to me as 2.9 and has 2.9 written on the shoulder.  I weighed this at it came in at 2-12.6 (again quite a bit of difference)

So my question is, do manufacturers weigh there bats naked or with stickers grips etc?
There are some quite big differences on some bats, especially the saf and m&h.

I wonder how many peoples bats are actually the weight they thought they were!

We weigh ours naked as any extra weight ie grips scuffs etc is up to customer and they need to take that into account as can as a couple of oz easy

There is no industry standard so its always best to clarify with the brand/batmaker in question as to what they deem as their finished weight.

The weights we quote are inclusive of a single chevron grip and stickers and toe guard if one is already fitted, anything extra added onto this need to be taken into account by the customer.

I think that's the norm. I think it should at least been gripped and in a ready to play state. You don't bat without a grip, but you might without a scuff or toe guard. Annoys the hell out of me as in the past I've been told a few porkes, a CA Gel that I was told 2'8 was in fact 2'12 etc, and I now weigh all my bats asap after purchase.

I don't have a set of scales, but i really don't want to weight my bats, if it feels good then I don't really see what the problem is unless you're using something that tires you very quickly.

Its more the fact that sometimes your sold something without being told whether it has been weighed with a grip and stickers etc or weighed without.
Ive already had to sell a few bats on which were too heavy due too being listed wrong.

I 100% agree with you though in the sense that if it feels good there is no problem.  I just wanted to see other peoples views on this.

I had the same problem with a M&H i bought that stated it was lighter than when it turned up because they weigh without sticker etc i think. I personally think the weight of the bat that should be advertised is the weight of the bat you will be getting. None of this without stickers/grip etc as it just confuses things.

Hows the Hellfire btw? are there any pics about on the forum?

All Red Ink bats weight includes grip and stickers. Unless you specifically ask for 2.9 naked u get it inc grip. Alot easier that way. Less confusion from customers expecting a certain weight and receiving something different

I think that's the way to do it, as an earlier poster said, you don't use a bat without a grip (Victor Trumper apart). Stickers, I'd imagine are negligible, but you might as well be bang on.

M&h weights are all before adding stickers and grips. I bought one from ijc and it was 2oz heavier than listed. Paul got in contact with them and they confirmed they don't include them in there weights.

One of our local guys has the weights of his bats displayed including grip (and stickers) - he also points out that if you have additional stickers (he can personalise bats) or a scuff sheet fitted, that this will increase the dead weight.
