Raised vs Flat Seam
« on: February 03, 2013, 05:57:07 AM »

Following uknsaunders's topic, I was intrigued to know distinction between flat seam and raised seam.

What are pros and cons of each? Which one is better for a bowler and a batsman? Overall which one is better?

Assuming raised ones seam more?

Thank you!

I prefer a raised seam as it brings the bowlers into it a bit more. Yes I now bat but I want a fair game. Raised seam helps swing/seam IF the bowler is good enough to control it and do it at will then they deserve to get wickets. Much prefer that to a flat seam, on a road where it's just zzzzzz

Flat seam is bad thats all you need to know. Unless its water sodden then a raise or pronounced seam will do more. It deviates off the pitch more and the rudder effect will make it swing more.

Just to add a wide seam is better than a narrow seam. Same reasons as above.
