I think the form part and the imaginary line outside of stump are points well made. A lot of the time in our cricket its a full toss or half volley that quickly puts you in the right frame of mind to score

What got you yo the point of writing it buzz?

Glad you like it - I wrote the book because I was giving some advice to people on here and doing some coaching and I had a long train journey and started putting it all down on paper. It was at a time also when there were some decent technical articals around which I used to back up my thoughts.

I also believe that coaching helps players understand their own faults. As a result i would say my technique now is better than it has ever been - shame my body is falling apart!!

I believe I am a much worse player now than I was before I coached lol. Now I over-analyse and try to make everything look good as opposed to being very successful at see-ball, hit-ball. Interesting how different minds use knowledge differently isn't it?

Alternatively - we started from a different point - before I coached, i used to overanalyse everything and beat myself up for not hitting the half volley. Batting became a load easier when I stopped caring and embrased the moo over cow for what it is... the most effective shot in cricket!!

cheers buzz, as someone who's still waiting for their maiden hundred i found the relevant chapter usefull

my problem is that i'm terrified of getting out and feel the pressure of not scoring quickly enough, that and until recently not having the opportunity at the top of the order to bat the 35 overs or so i'd need to get near a ton

after a decent knock of 60 not out opening the batting i've made the position my own so have more of a shot at it

any tips to overcome this fear of getting out?

in simple terms, you need to ensure the confidence you have in your shots out ways your fear.

try to develop two or three strong and simple scoring options and practice them really hard.

or bat at 11 when you will have a better than 50% chance of being not out

I've been LBW each knock this season for one main reason, I introduced a 'back and across' movement into my game over the winter.

I'll go back to my simple technique which has served me well the past number of years.
