Protective shoes
« on: February 06, 2013, 11:42:59 PM »

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any shoes that are good for protection while batting in indoor nets? My brother has been crunched on his toe a few times now, (he can't pick or play yorkers too well) and his toenail has taken a real bashing, and looks pretty bad... (there's a toenail growing under a toenail and his toe is purple...) I'm looking to buy him some, and cost isn't too much of an issue, especially since he is a bowler and needs his feet in good shape!

Thanks!

Might be worth looking a hockey style shoes, one of our players had a double ankle op last year and had some snazzy blue asics hockey trainers on earlier as he said they offered support and protection

Failing that, tell the lad to move his feet a little, or tell those boys in the nets to stop being nasty and yorking him

Or get him to bat a foot or so out of his crease...but probably do what Tom said above me...

Haha thing is, he knows what to play! He just chokes when he wants to, and ends up leaving the ball! the yorkers that are the worst are the ones which are missing leg stump, as he is absolutely clueless about flicking the ball... :-[

Thanks for the link!

Cheers Tomtek! Maybe we need some carbon fibre reinforced shoes, eh? 8)

Stop giving him ideas, Tom will be selling protective Canadian Willow batting shoes soon, and then we'll all be skint.

Missing leg stump? Well he should have a trigger to get into position...

I'm only saying that to wind Buzz up, that chap loves a trigger. Honestly, tell him to bat 3ft out of his crease, then he scoop the little red thing over short third man.

Cricket is easy ;)

Might sound stupid but have you thought about wrapping a bit foam around the toes/shoes

I've been working on an impact foam toe protector which sticks on either permanently or with a removable adhesive. It covers front, side and top of your toes. Will be about 10mm thick. It's not going to stop you feeling a 90mph toe crusher but it should take a lot of the sting out of it. Looking to bring it out this year in the £12-£15 range for a set

That's brilliant Crictech! Keep me updated if you happen to release one, as it would save the hassle of having to buy new shoes! 8)

My sister suffered a broken big toe from a Yorker in a men's game. So we have modified a pair of her spikes for batting.

We got a toe protector from America that is made for baseball and applied it to her shoe. Doubt it will offer total protection but does stiffen up that front toe area. Will try to get a picture and possibly a link to the item.

Here's the item we used http://www.tufftoesports.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=26&products_id=36

I'm thinking of getting some of the Asics which have P guard, they look tough enough.

There was also a thread ages ago about an American company that provides a protective cover, I think it's foe baseball.

Will search for it and post it
