GN Phoenix Titanium
« on: February 12, 2013, 06:14:06 PM »

Looking for a little help
Picked a GN Phoenix Titanium up on ebay for £20, think its from around 2004/5 range
In absolutely brilliant condition given its age, looks like it only seen 1 net session
But with the Titanium bats, they have this grey/silver coating all down the edge of the bat. Does anyone know what this is for? iv seen it before, but dont know what it does, does it aid the performance? Looks a bit rubbish in my opinion and want to know if its gonna make a difference if its removed. And if its easy to remove

Can provide pictures if needed, but does anyone know anything about the Titanium bats GN produced?
Cheers

I have a feeling this was discussed before and some people came to the conclusion it was to make the sound of nicks quieter. But obviously GN would have a different opinion on that.

It is virtually impossible to get off in my experience. Refurbed one last year and sanding the grooves in the back was easy compared to removing the silver sides

They eventually chip off if you edge the ball enough I think! I had a friend who had one, and saw chips on the metal bits. I reckon the bat will die before it all chips off though! :-[

I had a powerbow titanium back in the day, and I think the stuff on the edges actually held the outside edge of my bat together

there's a few little dents and nicks in the coating already from balls being edged, doesnt look great, and it sticks out a little.
